Read the note at the bottom, can anyone shed more light on this or are they pulling our leg?

It's true. The production Chevy Camaro will debut at Indy, but not at the Indy 500 race in a couple of weeks. Rather, General Motors has informed various Camaro fanboy circles that production Camaros will be in attendance at the Indy '08, Back at the Brickyard event from September 19-21. The Back at the Brickyard is an event attended by thousands of Camaro and Firebird fans, so it's appropriate that the production Camaro be welcomed into the world by friends. On hand will be a number of different Camaro models sporting the full engine lineup and, of course, all the different colors. Everyone thought GM would wait until the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit to debut its new rear-wheel-drive coupe bearing the iconic Camaro name, but we're hardly disappointed the car will be unveiled more than three months earlier. We may just have to make a special trip to Indianapolis for this one.

Before you plan your trip to the Brickyard, we feel compelled to note that GM has not issued a formal press release confirming all of this, so it's possible some forum members are pulling everyone's leg right now. Thanks for the tip, Tommy!

UPDATE: We've contacted GM to inquire about the validity of this story, and they tell us that the production Camaro will not debut at this event. It will actually debut BEFORE then at a place TBD. Hmmm... what event takes place before September that would be an appropriate place to debut an iconic muscle car? If you'd all like to meet us at the Coney Island restaurant on Woodward Ave. the Thursday before the Dream Cruise, we'll buy you a coney.

Maybe it's debut will be the Brickyard 400. I doubt it, though. Look for the Camaro to make it's debut on or around July 4th.

Sure why not, what better way to celebrate America then an American iconic mussel car. :D

I think they should just wait until Indy event. Reveal this to the people that really wanted to see this car return - the enthusiast. Not like I could make the trip tho :)

I agree, wait till September when I can be there to unvail it! Or the Brickyard will be fine to, as I will be there also!

I wish they'd hurry the hell up and release all of the pricing and options information. If I can swing an SS/Z28 price wise I may be highly tempted to buy a new Camaro rather than a used Corvette just on the basis of having a brand new car with a warranty. They don't need to hold off any longer, Ford and Dodge have showed all of their cards. I want to have a new car before the end of August when school starts again, or at least know I can afford one momentarily.

I guess you have no clue what the Woodward Dream Cruise is?

The real enthusiast will be going to Woodward! NASCAR fans will be going to Brickyard. I will put my money on the Woodward people buying Camaro's. More than I would NASCAR fans.

The event, whenever it takes place, should be televised live on SPEED. Hosted by Tommy Kendall, with special appearances by Jay Leno, Dale Jr., and Mr. Lutz. Big time ballyhoo! Yes, I am serious.

If I had a say in it I'd think it would be a good idea to do it on July 4th or the weekend of July 4th like what was said before. A true American icon bought out on America's Day!
