We have heard Maxium Bob "pedal to the medal, i have a fighter jet" say that GM might consider a 4 cyl turbo in the Camaro because of 35mpg Cafe. So my scenrio is this:

1: Obama wins election
2: Demorcates get super majority over 75% control in congress house/senate
3: Obama and dems raise CAFE even higher to like 50-60mpg.

In this scenario could we see the end of the V8 "big" motor as Lutz calls it and see a 4cyl Turbo that Lutz has talked about in the Camaro? We also know that VW will be using 3cyl engines in the next Golf/Rabbit as a base engine. Keeping in mind CAFE would we see a camaro these engines:

1. 3 cyl turbo and or supercharged (60-100hp) diesel 200 torque
2. 4 cyl turbo charged 100-150 hp
3. 6 cyl 250 hp (super charged)
4. 6 cyl diesel turbocharged 200hp but 300 torque

I just wonder what a democrate controlled congress and white house would mean. I listened to Bill Clinton who said a few weeks ago that Hillary would have a plan to get cars to 100mpg with 2 years of her presidency. see this video about it yourself:

Not likely.

If there was suddenly a reason to produce high mpg cars -- either because of market demand or mandate -- brands not associated with high mpg (like the Camaro) would likely simply be discontinued.

Folks who want a Camaro don't want small motors. And folks who want high mpg wouldn't even consider something called a "Camaro", which has never really been associated with fuel economy.

It a high mpg world, GM would be better off creating a new age performance car that didn't have the expectations and associations of an older nameplate. Then, they'd be free to go hybrid or electric or diesel or whatever, and the end result would only be judged on how good it was, not by how it compared to Camaro's past.

Given the incredible torque of electric motors, the next gen performace car may end up being something like a Volt, only tuned to be biased to performance instead of out and out fuel economy.

Anything under 200hp would just be gutless in a 3700lb Camaro. At 150hp, acceleration would be equivalent to a base Cobalt with 4 200lb passengers and luggage.

I think a volt like Camaro would be awsome. I would love to see some kind of different Camaro. A new Camaro for a New age.... Its runs on Hydrogen and can run on battery. I think we can have performance but it will take a bit to get there. Remember they said performance died when cafe went into effect in the 1970's well 20 years later performance was back.

Bottom line is the 4000+lbs, 400+hp market WILL shrink in coming years. What you describe is definitely not a Camaro. Call it a Volt SS, call it whatever, but don't call it a Camaro. Then again, a 4000lb electric car isn't exactly a performance icon in the making either.

Im tempeted to lock this thread for several reasons, one being political, the other being that this thread has gone off the deep end.
3cyl Camaro?
An LNF Camaro wouldnt be too bad. 260hp in a 3700lb car would give you more power then a 200hp in a 3300lb Mustang or a 250hp in a 3900lb Challenger.

Your problem is believing anything Bill Clinton says about any woman. Remember how dramatically he denied knowing "that woman" in the blue dress, even after he decorated it? Shame on you! :yup:
