If GM really wanted to give some kind of up-level badging to distinguish it from lower-rung XTSs, but not use the "hallowed" V-Series designiation, couldn't they come up with another trim level altogther than use "V" in the name? Even something like T-Type (for turbo) or just plain old "Sport" would have made more sense.

Yeah, T-type....that would have been better, NOT! Something not even associated with Cadillac, but Buicks from the 80's....why not STE? Maybe SS? Or SPORT, yeah, SPORT! like those decals you can buy at PepBoys and slap on your Kia Riododno...SPORT!!! Maybe it could come with some flowery EdHardy seat covers with matching steering wheel wrap with skulls and roses, and a crown air freshener...SPORT!!!! Really? SPORT!!!???? WTF people, sometimes you give me a headache......How about Limited Edition? I hear you can get a break on those, we can even throw in some stick on portholes too!

I will probably get criticized for mentioning this but I see the MKS and XTS as VERY similar offerings and they both start in their base form around the same price but the MKS EcoBoost starts at 47k and tops out at just over 55k. This starts at 63k I think that is a bit steep.
Look at the cars, you can see where the extra money goes in the Cadillac, the MKS has some interior elements that look so cheap that they dont even belong on a Flex. The back of the center console for example, the Cadillac is more, because more goes into it.

XTS is a much larger car than the MKS. It also has more power.
XTS is much larger? that's news to me:

PHP:
................MKS......XTS
Wheelbase: 112.9 111.7

An extra half a foot of total legroom is HUGE.

People complained that the car basically competes with the 735, but nothing for the 750/760 or whatever their designations are. Now they have a premium engine for a premium car. The pricing seems in line with a premium large car with a lot of power.

MKS is not a direct comparision. MKS is smaller, less power and less premium. Lincoln is still a step behind Cadillac.

All other specs are very close, I don't see how that makes the XTS MUCH larger than the MKS. I agree Cadillac's image is a lot better than Lincoln's but I still see the XTS and MKS in the same market 2 large FWD based with AWD optional premium vehicles, they both start around the same price and go up from there. I just don't see the justification of bumping the price up THAT much.

I've sat inside the XTS & the MKS at a car show and the XTS was bigger by far both from a driver's standpoint and a rear passanger standpoint

I wonder how they compare price-wise when comparably equipped.

MKS won't be around much longer anyway.

Wont' be around much longer? Surely you know about this right?

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2015-lincoln-mks-spy-photos-news

And the current MKS is substantially larger than the XTS in all dimensions (especially width) with the notable exception of front-leg room which is an aberration of the platform it's based on and a major flaw.

And this seems awfully expensive for an XTS, the price range on this car is pretty extreme, but that's true of many Caddys, they tend to be option heavy and charge a premium for each check mark. Lincoln's tends to start higher with more standard equipment, but end much lower with the same or more features. The MKX vs SRX is a very good example of this, where even foglights are optional on the SRX while it stickers $5K cheaper but prices out like a top-end MKX.

This thing is moving in to s6 price territory, and the s6 will rape it.
We shall se in the upcoming comparos won't we. Personally the S6 is a great car beautiful, fast comfortable but in the handling department? It's and understeer nightmare. I know I drove one and we should see how this Cadillac compares with it and being a V sport it should have sporting credentials.

So technically VSport is a different trim level than "V-Series", is that correct? Is it kind of like how Audi has S and "S Line" (similar look, but less go?).

If GM really wanted to give some kind of up-level badging to distinguish it from lower-rung XTSs, but not use the "hallowed" V-Series designiation, couldn't they come up with another trim level altogther than use "V" in the name? V sport seems to emulate Audi's "S", which is a good thing. Audi has the "S Line", which is basically appearance and maybe handling/brake upgrades. "S" would be upgrade across board (engine/tranny/brakes/suspension/etc....). "RS" Goes even further and becomes almost more track oriented. The thing that is great about the "S" is its a great balance between performance and everyday driveability, plus they don't strip out the comfort/luxury features from the interior (wood instead of carbon fiber, etc....).

Brand dilution... how?

It prevents brand dilution but still leverages the image of the V-series.

Exclusivity?

1) Because it's an Impala and it's not getting this
2) To prep people for Cadillacs in that price range and to offer a more powerful model which has been a point of contention with the XTS with more than a few people.

Size? Comfort? Because you're an old man? :D

Platinum will be about 70k, me thinks.
^^ all this. Cadillac is not a bargain brand if people want a Cadillac they will have to pay for it. For less expensive vehicles there's Chevrolet, GMC, and Buicks all of them great brands in their own right. Cadillac is a luxury performance brand and I'm happy GM is elevating the brand to a higher luxury level to compete with the germans and being the Standard of the World.

I always wonder why people want cheap Cadillacs. Cadillac’s are not cheap. If you want a cheap one, there is always certified used.
If you want a cheap Cadillac, buy a DTS someone still has sitting on their lot.

The new Cadillac is not affordable for everyone. Nor should they be.

Cadillac WANTS to be the standard of the world but right now they dont even have a complete lineup in the US. This is one step towards that but limiting the top motor to the top trims just doesnt work.

Is the 3.6TT worth the $6400 premium over the AWD Premium price? Thats just a HUGE price bump.
