For 2020, Cadillac updated the CTS and renamed it the CT5. While much is shared with its CTS predecessor, the new name is part of Cadillac's attempt to hone its sedan strategy. Cadillac's previous strategy created two sedans that didn't quite line up in size against the competition. The CT5 is significantly revised, but the 350T version powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder isn't going to upset the sports-sedan order. While it might be better positioned against the BMW 3-series in terms of price and size, it has lost some of the satisfying handling and performance that distinguished the CTS and ATS sedans...

That's GM's own fault when it tried to pass these cars off as 1/A/A3 (CT4) and 3/C/A4 (CT5) competitors because of price. Here's the thing.. and the reason why I really wish GM would stop listing to certain individuals because we are back to the old "Let's compare the CTS numbers against the 3Series/etc.. even tho we know its the same size as the 5Series.. but its priced closer the 3Series."
Check this out..
C&D
Those two quotes are perhaps they greatest and most blatant omissions of logic and contradiction in automotive press history. LET ME EXPLAIN.
"We know the CT5 is literally the same size as the 5 Series.. BUUUUT we are gonna compare it to smaller 3Series.. and HEY.. Despite the engineering feat of actually producing a car that is as large as the BMW 5 and larger than the smaller 3.. it WEIGHS about the same as the 3.. We won't really play up that feat as a stroke of genius engineering.. F**K that!"
Then..
"We're making this statement for the hell of it.. the CT5, again is larger, but we're gonna say that it would have, in braking distance and lateral gs on the 300ft skidpad, landed in the back of our last comparison of small compact luxos.. even tho we admitted it was a mid-size (by stating that it competes in size with the 5Series. Yeah.. the CT5.. the larger car only handles as well as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Sport Q2 and 2020 Volvo S60 T5 Momentum."
Other Cars it was being Compared to in C&D
Again the CT5 is almost 7 inches longer than the Volvo and almost a FOOT longer than the Guilia.
The GAME IS RIGGED.. and U all know I'm telling the truth. GM should have never went back to the tweener price strategy.. The CTS lost sales because they FAILED at supporting it with variants and proper marketing even when it won COTY.. not because it was too big or cost more
I don't know what you're talkinga bout. Cadillac has consistently used the Art & Science design language since the original CTS 20+ years ago. If anything, they didn't change it enough for a while there.Well.... they both are lousy actually! However, the Bangle Butt was the last major brouhaha for BMW styling, and GM does it every new vehicle launch. There is no harmony or consistency in GM design. I was a former devout GM enthusiast, I no longer think Cadillac is any more premium than a Nissan. While I get caught up in new features that GM touts, when I objectively step back and consider it, it’s always "Why the hell did it take so long and get implemented so haphazardly"
I am also a hard-core Samsung enthusiast, so while I am excited that the Escalade is now essentially a Samsung Showroom, I really feel it was a phoned-in design, inside and out. Anyone can buy expensive materials and reupholster a Walmart chair...but that doesn't make it a luxury item!
I agree up to a point.. because anyone with a brain can obviously see that they are a class above those intentions. No one is telling me that the Civic is a mid-sizer just because U can buy one for the same price as a CamryThat's GM's own fault when it tried to pass these cars off as 1/A/A3 (CT4) and 3/C/A4 (CT5) competitors because of price.
I mean, I'm with you. But GM is pushing them against the smaller crowd. In your example, Honda doesn't advertise the Civic as a Camry competitor even if there is price overlap.I agree up to a point.. because anyone with a brain can obviously see that they are a class above those intentions. Thing is.. I have YET to see GM actually ADVERTISE it as a 3 series competitorI mean, I'm with you. But GM is pushing them against the smaller crowd. In your example, Honda doesn't advertise the Civic as a Camry competitor even if there is price overlap.
Well, GM isnt advertising it at all, but their initial press release did try to lump it against the 3/C/A4 and everyone here jumped down my ass when I mentioned its size comparison.Thing is.. I have YET to see GM actually ADVERTISE it as a 3 series competitor
Ha... ha, ha, ha, ha. Cue the usual suspects here at GMI about GM and not/poorly advertising things.Well, GM isnt advertising it at all, but their initial press release did try to lump it against the 3/C/A4 and everyone here jumped down my ass when I mentioned its size comparison.
Is it a lie? Is there a CT5 commercial somewhere?Ha... ha, ha, ha, ha. Cue the usual suspects here at GMI about GM and not/poorly advertising things.
Huh. And I went from ambivalent to a big admirer of this car. Really stunning carI really want to like this car, and keep revisiting it in pics and specs and details. But my opinion of it does not seem to improve. This really upsets me.
It's just common sense now isn't it? Put your best offer in the hands of the testers so that's the impression that's out there. Doesn't matter if it's not the most popular model that is likely to be sold. I think they will be tainted from now on, they already think rubbish. From now on, it'll be, this is better, BUT and there will always be a nitpick or a whatever. It's too late, you only have one shot to make a first impression.GM needs to get the 3.0TT out, like yesterday. That car will change people's minds, but this 2.0T seems to be very forgettable. Once journalists get their hands on the CT5 VSport, they'll sing a different song.
I've thought about it after I made a similar statement early in this thread.. and its possible that they think that by giving them the weaker model first.. and get it out of the way,.. they can give them the better model later and blast past any negativity they had with the weaker one. Thing is though that to a lot of people, the damage has been done by going that route, especially on the internet know it all sites.I've thought about it after I made a similar statement early in this thread.. and its possible that they think that by giving them the weaker model first.. and get it out of the way,.. they can give them the better model later and blast past any negativity they had with the weaker one. Not convinced of that completely.. as 9 outta 10 trolls on the internet would have never bought the car anyway.. 2.0L or 3.6L TT.. Again.. people HERE complained about this engine with FULL KNOWLEDGE that the ATS had not only a 3.6L, but a 3.6LTT. Some got off their asses and bought.. the others... well.. and that goes for any brandThing is though that to a lot of people, the damage has been done by going that route, especially on the internet know it all sites.
Read elsewhere that the V went into production Feb 10th. Let’s hope....GM needs to get the 3.0TT out, like yesterday. That car will change people's minds, but this 2.0T seems to be very forgettable. Once journalists get their hands on the CT5 VSport, they'll sing a different song.
