When my dealer starts to get inventory, I'll keep checking online. I'm flexible on the configuration, but I'm obsessed with the Dark Moon Metallic.

Since I’m cheeeeeeeeeep, I’ve been comparing the base CT4 ($33,990)to the base CT5 ($36,890). For the extra $2900, you get a few more things on the base CT5:

—10sp vs 8sp tranny
—electronic shifter (which some reviewers find annoying, I’d have to try it)
—a bunch of safety stuff like FCA, AEB, FPB and Safety Seat (not sure what that is)
—10” vs 8” infotainment
—others?

The larger CT5 gets you a noticeably bigger back seat, but the CT4 is about 200lb lighter and should be quicker/faster with the 2.0T. It is also rated 34mpg highway vs 32mpg for the CT5. Both pluses for me...I don’t need the backseat and would buy a coupe if offered.

To me the biggest issue with the base CT4 is the complete lack of safety features compared to the base CT5. The XT4, roughly the same price as the CT4, also offers standard safety tech. I ask Caddy at bare minimum offer the same stuff as in the base CT5.

I don’t actually want the safety nannies myself—I never text while driving—but I figure not having them will affect resale value at this point.

Other than that I’m all over the CT4 and would get a Prem Lux CT4 over a base CT5!

And if you add those features to the CT4 you've got a smaller car for basically the same price?

Seriously, what's the point of a $34k CT4 now that the CT5's price has been lowered to under $37k,
Cadillac should have just stopped making the ATS/CT4 and just concentrated on CT5 as it's much better value.
Perplexing............................

Didn't we just hear from GM last week that they were going to minimize options to save money, yet here they are making 2 completely different cars, almost needlessly?

#18 ·
But that's just the base price, once you start adding options the CT5's price increases very quickly.... Plus the base price of the CT4 is $32,995, not $34k....

I think everyone needs to build a CT4 and CT5 to see the pricing for themselves, You are not walking out with a comparably equipped CT5 for the same price as a CT4, the CT5 will run you a lot more $$$.

Edit, base is $32,995 plus destination charge is $995.

Good luck to Caddy/GM.

Pricing is attractive for bargain buyers who just want to get into the Cadillac brand, question is does the brand have any value for anyone to want to bother sneaking into it?

I can legit seeing folks spend 60-65k on a decontented Escalade but I dont think anyone will pay 34k for a basement CT4. Just my .02

Sadly, GM's mismanagement of Cadillac over the past 50 years has diminished the value of the brand to the point where Cadillac's place among premium automotive brands is ambiguous.

I have a hunch that the CT4 is going to be more of a pure sports sedan where the CT5 will be more balanced between sportiness and comfort (like the Comsumer Reports review states). If what you want is more of a proper sports sedan you will choose the CT4, while the CT5 will be chosen for spaciousness, comfort, with enough sportiness to accommodate drivers wanting a spirited drive.

Really? I find the rear of the CT4 offensive. That loaded diaper looking trunk hump is going to look worse in person. The 5s C pillar looks bad in side profile shots but in person, saw one yesterday, looks pretty good, pretty...pretty...pretty good.

Poking around with the Configurator I ran into something a bit weird. If you want Adaptive Cruise, it'll run you minimum $42,840 for the CT4 (Prem Lux + packages). That might sound expensive, but it'll run you $49,070 for Adaptive in the CT5...ouch! Multiple additional packages are required to get Adaptive Cruise, but especially with the CT5.

Also, am I missing it, I don't see where to add a Sunroof to the CT5? It is part of the Platinum package (and a package for the Luxury trim), but I don't see it as a stand-alone option for Sport or Prem Lux. On various dealer sites, it looks like it is a $1550 option. The CT4 has a $1050 sunroof option that you can select in the Configurator (regular sunroof vs. panoramic in the CT5).

You are correct dannyg. For CT5, there is no "standard size" sunroof option, only the UltraView dual pane version.

On CT5 Luxury, you have to specify the $2,800 Sun and Sound package to get it.
On CT5 Premium Luxury, Sport, and V, it is available as a standalone option for $1,450, and is included in the $8,330 Platinum Package as you noted

If the main configuration tool on cadillac.com doesn't show all of these options, try the GM Supplier Build and Price tool here - no supplier ID needed: https://www.gmsupplierdiscount.com/build-and-price

All I can say is we had immense threads regarding the "awfulness" of the CT5 c-pillar kink. Now that people are seeing it in real life I feel like most are saying "no big deal".

Some design elements don't photograph well... The CT4 rear-end might be one of those cases, I've not seen it in the flesh yet either, but in pictures, nothing looks that bad to me but maybe it will when I see it or maybe it won't....

Configured with the standard equipment and nearly $700 Metallic Green paint. That was it. Everything I needed was already on it. Total was under $36,000 IIRC. Oh and beige interior.

I like the looks of it but the cut lines for the trunk in profile are tacky, a pet peeve of mine. And the rear end is pretty busy.
Kudos to Cadillac for not using the industry universal
{58 Edsel or some version of } tail lights. Hello Mazda, {Hello Faddah}, Chevy, Toyota, Ford, Buick Hyundai etc etc etc

I realize MPG isn't a really important reason to buy a car like this, but I for one appreciate the fact that MPG for the CT4 is up compared to the ATS. Power down a bit, MPG up a bit. Highway is up 4MPG for the RWD, 3MPG for the AWD.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=42467&id=40410&id=42466&id=40409

I'm really looking forward to seeing performance numbers for the CT4 and CT4-V. The 2.0T CT4 should be a tad faster than the CT5 2.0T since it's 200lb lighter.

Still might consider a used ATS after checking out the CT4...we'll see...

Hey you’re right it does look good in black. Here’s a black AWD Sport for about $10K less:

Don’t get me wrong I’d rather have the V, but I’m looking forward to testing of the 2.0T CT4. Assuming it’s a bit faster than the 2.0T CT5 I can live with it...+$50K is def out of my range. And maybe the chassis tuning for the non-V CT4 is a bit tighter than the non-V CT5? We’ll soon find out.

I am waiting to see a V in the Evergreen color as I think that is my number one choice at the moment. Although seeing and hearing the CT5V is making me look that way as well. Although once you start getting into that money, I might be better off waiting for a lower content C8 as I have always wanted one. Lots of good choices right now.

#113 ·
For me another choice is a CPO ATS for now, around $20K, bump up to a CPO CT4-V in a couple of years for less $$ than buying new. Will take a look at CT4/CT5/ATS over the summer, maybe wait for 2021 to see if there are any interesting tweaks to the packages or trims. Choices choices choices!

Glad you said it...I thought it was AWD seeing how jacked up it was.

I'm sorry but it just doesnt look good. The CT5&6 are handsome and cohesive...this thing looks like they tried to graft the next gen design on the previous gen's hardpoints. And that rear end is atrocious

A local dealer had a CT4 on the lot so I went to look at it today. The regular CT4 isn't my cup of tea but it looked pretty good overall for a near base car. One thing that was odd was that the "4" emblem on the back was crooked.

A straightforward review, including driving, of a base CT4 from the Nothin but Cars guy:

This one has heated seats and wireless options, MSRP around $37K (I think this one is RWD). Tan interior, which I like a lot, IMO I'd say the car looks excellent esp. for the price. Of course if I had the $$ I'd get a 2.7T CT4-V but I don't!

I like this guy's reviews, good info (except he says 10" screen when it's actually 8") and just a few comments. He basically lets the car speak for itself. Early in the drive he suggests that the CT5 is quicker, but once he turns onto the highway and gives it some beans my guess is the lighter CT4 is quicker. I'm looking forward to seeing some testing to compare the two.

EDIT: It appears that at the beginning of the drive he is in Snow & Ice Mode. Later he switches to Sport mode.

I test drove the CT5 Premium Luxury 2.0 twice. My 2018 ATS is more fun to drive, faster and corners better.
I started to think that if I want fun driving, I should study the CT4. Can't test CT4 yet.

I noticed that the seat bottom on the CT5 is 1" shorter than my ATS, so not as comfortable at my 6'2".
I figure that will apply to the CT4. Standard leather seats on ATS + CTS are the same. I showed the saleman, who
had a 2019 CTS + 2020 CT5 in the showroom.

I sat in a CT5 Sport. Those seats are Really Nice and it was the leatherette. On the CT4, you can get the Sport seats on
the Sport or V. On the config, selecting Climate Pkg will switch you to Leather, then you can pick the leather color.

Also notice that the CT4 Lux/Prem LUx come with self seal tires. You can add run flat to the Sport + V.
How do you like Continental tires? CT4 has them. The V drops and adds a couple colors.

The first level V is like having a V-Sport or the ATS Premium RWD with more TQ.
On the V, AWD is only $500, because AWD removes MRC. If you config a Prem Lux CT4 with 2.7 and the CT4-V with the same
options, the V is around $3,000 more, so not crazy expensive, like the high end V.
