We've heard about this forever and GM pushed the program this time last year. But getting more confirmation for what we already knew was coming is always good:

SOURCE: Motor Trend

The BMW 3 Series-size Alpha RWD Cadillacs are scheduled for the 2011 model year to replace the failed Epsilon front-drive Cadillac BLS in Europe while expanding the division's car lineup in North America. The Cadillac Alphas will include a sedan and either a folding hardtop coupe, or a conventional coupe and convertible.

Was this REALLY that hard of a decision? Having a three-series competitor was a no brainer all along for me. Plus, with new fuel economy regs, it actually makes more sense than usual to make some smaller caddies. Combining the DTS and STS will leave Caddy with 3 cars -- sm, med. and large, where they had med. large and larger before. Sounds like a good move all around.

Ugh! No pics???? This will probably be my next car, granted it looks similar to the midsize CTS. Ill take one with a direct injected turbo charged 4 cylinder please.
Nope - sorry buddy. Nothing yet!

However, having a DI/Turbo I4 is almost a certainty if it makes you feel any better. GM has just about come out and said it in the past that such an engine would be used across certain Caddy products in the near future -- I suspect that the BTS/BLS/Whatever-they-call-it will include this.

I interviewed one of Cadillac's top marketing guys for a business class a few years ago. I asked him why they chose to build the CTS the same size as a 5-series but put it up against the 3-series price wise. He said something like "There's no way I'm going head to head with the 3-series" referring to their perceived inability to compete with one of the car world's strongest benchmarks.

Maybe that's why it was hard to green light the Alpha Caddy.

This sounds exciting! I Actually liked the Looks of the Saab based BLS but I guess the RWD would certainly be more appropriate for the upscale US market. I'm thrilled to hear that a coupe and convertible are still in the mix. I thought I had read n these pages a while back that GM killed a CTS Convetible because it would competed with the Saab 9-3. I'm Glad to hear that Convertible Talk still remains at Cadillac on what will certainy be a more sporting size sized vehicle.

Now the big question is Ragtop or Retratable Hardtop. I'm sure either would have stunning Cadillac design, but I'm a purist and love the look of Jet Black premium Sail cloth canvass top.

I'm sure we all agree, but I'm also sure it's all about where to put the little cash that's left. When you look at the true no brainers like the Volt, Cruze, and keeping the Epsilons class competitive, there must be much gnashing of teeth trying to prioritize the rest.

This should put an end to the CTS - 3 Series comparisons. Now let’s hope GM doesn’t make the same mistake BMW did with the 1 series by making it about the same weight and almost the same price as the bigger platform mate. A BLS that is 3800lbs and only a couple grand cheaper than the CTS is what I fear.

Base - Turbo 4
Mid - 3.6
V - Turbo 3.6

hmmm, i guess i could wait another year before i put myself into a caddy coupe...man, theyre gonna be so hot!!! i would like a twin turbo version of the DI V6 though, perhaps putting down 400 hp??? more spunk than the everyother gm car using it, and not as hot headed as the V series.

Looks good. The CTS is great but it got bigger. Should still have a v-6 option. Sketch looks great, just don't supersize the wheels. LInes flow better than the CTS. What, no side vents?
Perhaps V6 engines for a V version.

Liking this concept, and the sketch, though it looks to have FWD proportions, with the large front overhang and cab-forward architecture.
