Does anyone know if the 05 Malibu Classic has a cabin air filter? I cannot seem to locate it or find information in my owner’s manual. Is there a difference between the engine air filter and the cabin air filter?

No cabin air filter on the '05 Malibu. Yes there is a difference. Cabin filters the air flowing into your car (usually passenger side cowling) and engine filters the intake air into the engine.

It is amazing what is found in one of those Cabin Air filters.

I really thought they were more gimmick then useful until I saw mine changed once.

We had Leaves, Dog Hair, and Good Old Dirt CLOGGED in it.
I have ours changed every 30K miles and probably need to do it sooner then that.

I agree with how useful they are. I have one on a LeSabre and in 30,000 miles it's pretty awful looking.

I used to consider them silly and unnecessary.

I wonder why my car doesn't have one then? I feel left out!
You are being punished for indiscretions in past lives. Work out your karma.

And install one by all means. There is all sorts of dirt in that air out there.

Ive pulled ones out of Hondas that have been in for 50-60k...whole black bricks!! Its pretty bad.
They tend to be pretty pricy! Much more then a regular air filter for the engine, and labor tends to be up there for something as light duty as a cabin filter.
