I can't be the only one who thinks that not having a V-8 below the SS trim level is stupid.
I totally agree, where's the base V8?

The Camaro's base V8 is locked in the "Confiscated Items" room in the CAFE High School, and can't be picked up until June 5, 2009. Sorry. :lmao:

I guess I will have to wait at least a few years to get one used... and I will settle for a 6 cylinder!~ Question is... How long will this version of the Camaro will be produced? Is there going to be a Pontiac Firebird version???

I was afraid the roof would be too low - the front head room is 2.1 inches less than that of the Challanger. I may still fit, because it is 0.2 inches more than the 1979 Trans-AM and 1970 AMX I once co-owned. Once the Camaros are at the dealerships, I'll be motivated to drive a Challenger and a Camaro.

There will not be a Firebird (Sadly). Who wants to bet that there will be some sort of conversion kit to change a Camaro into a Firebird available somewhere? If there were such an animal I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't want a Camaro, I want a Firebird GM!

So what are you looking for? Perhaps a Camaro "Sport" model with the 361hp 6.0L V8 from the Pontiac G8 in a car that starts at maybe $27,995? I think there was a time (um, the 60's/early 70's) where the market demanded and had the room for another V8 Camaro option, but I think any kind of base V8 model below the SS is just splitting hairs. I really don't see the point.

At least if that is the reason behind it. When I look at last gen Camaros, I check for an SS or Z28 to know I'm looking at a V8 as that is what I would want. Now an SS will be a v6? Boooo:mad: I though "SS" was not going to be thrown around anymore and wasted.
who said anything about the camaro ss being a v6?

If you want, my sister will sell you her "stripper" 1996 Cavalier. Crank windows, no power locks, factory delete radio option, no AC. It did have some kind of traction control though, I don't know if the govt will let that go anymore. It is basic transportation in the truest sense of the word. I couldn't believe they made something so stripped down anymore.

I could see some kind of special edition stripper Camaro in years to come though. Sell 1000 units or so. Won't make much $ for GM though, margins are in the options.

If someone is looking for a V8 powered, roll up windows, no AC, factory AM Camaro, I have a sweet 72 Camaro with brand new pro-touring suspension and full stainless exhaust up for sale..

If you want a modern, best bang for the buck car out on the market, stop by your local Chevy dealer and buy a Camaro.

Base V8 below the SS? I guess 300hp V6 isnt enough for some?
SS taking the lions share of the sales right now shows me that only enthusiasts know about the car right now. GM is doing a piss poor job of letting people know. They have been flashing this car all around the auto show circuit for so long, but totally forgot to tell people when to order it.

There will never be a "stripper" Camaro, but the 15 Deciples did work hard with the Camaro team to NOT make leather and a bunch of other stuff standard on SS.
Someone tell me where else they can get 422hp, 2+2 seater sports car with IRS, 14 inch brakes with 4 piston calipers up front with 14.4 inch rotors in the rear with 4 piston calipers, massive by wide wheels and tires, 6spd manual or auto trans, and be able to drive on a daily basis, for UNDER 33K NEW. If you can, buy it.

The V6 has 300hp which is V8 power and it's only $23k. Granted, it wont have the V8 sound.
