Buick tried to build a premium compact sedan, but comes up a bit short. Based on the Chevrolet Cruze, the Buick Verano is very quiet and has some unique luxury features.

...as I stated before (and people here bitched about), the general consumer consensus is that the Verano is just a re-badged/skinned Cruze with a bigger, thirstier engine.

The general consumer doesn't even know what cars are based on the same platforms, much less have a consensus on how one relates to another.

Besides, what other options are there in this segment? The ILX, which is just a re-badged/skinned Civic with a bigger, thirstier engine?

I wonder why people by the ILX already. The ILX is the only real competitor for the Verano at this point, and the Verano clubs it in most of the significant measures. I just wish they'd go with a 1.6 or 1.8 turbo that would maintain or outright improve the power and take economy up to 35+ mpg where it should be. Some sort of economy-based model would be a good idea too.

I'd like to see a Verano with the 2.0L diesel in Buick showrooms. At Buick pricing levels the diesel's costs aren't as significant.
A diesel would be nice if the market would accept it. GM should start trying to get more Voltec-based powertrains in some of their upper middle class products.

Absolutely----I test drove a Volvo S40 over a year ago and it would be no match to refinement of the Verano. The NVH was louder than expected and the 2.5T sounded a lil' too coarse for my test in a $30K car. Unless you just simply had to have a Volvo the Verano is more than a formidable opponent---and priced very well for what is is.

Christ, that presenter is a damn annoying, condescending douche. I'm not a violent man, but I'd like to kick his head in. I can just imagine all the GM engineers who put so much effort into creating the Verano having to listen to idiotic criticizm ("hard to find start button") from someone who has created nothing, built nothing, engineered nothing, and whose work product ultimately means nothing! Truling galling!

Comments like "hard to find start button" drive me crazy. Even if true, how often is it hard to find? Once. It's just not a relevant complaint.

Reviews of ergonomics often will complain about some supposed difficulty to learn something. With all the new features in cars now, controls can only be so simple. So what if something has a bit of a learning curve? People buy cars and have them for extended periods of time, they're not pop quizzes on wheels that require fast answers.

You CR haters crack me up, if this was a Toyota, you'd be laughing, giving high-fives and calling the car a total POS..............

It is his job to critique the car, what parts were non-factual and made-up?

The start/stop button, is as he said "initially" hard to find, in your opinion is that a lie?

Most cars have the ignition key or start/stop button on the column, or on the dash, next to the column, this is somewhat buried in the center stack, would be like trying to initially find a the headlight switch, it not where it typically is, and amoung a myraid of other buttons.

By the by, you need to go back and practice your shapes, because that button isn't round.....

...because the Cruze PREDATES the Verano here in USA & NA marktets, but LAGS behind both European (Opal) and Asian (Daewoo). We compare things to their most recent "relatives."

But they are not comparing it, they are saying it IS a Cruze, I know its easier to be ignorant rather than educated, but life here would be much easier if people would bother to look sometihing up before the spew bull***t.

Also? Opal? OPEL.

Thank you.

I don't see the point of the fury and rage some people expressed here over a car review. I watched it again after wondering about the Cruze, and I find it wouldn't be that bad of a choice.
