On my 2000 Blazer, which has a brake-in-hat design for the rear disc brakes, I believe the parking brake on the passenger side is stuck. I can't get the rotor assembly off the axle.

At first, I thought it was gaulded on, but have since come to realize it is most definitely the parking brake. I got the assembly to move about a 1/2 inch, but no further. Is there a way to release the parking brake externally? Looking at the driver's side, the wheel is on the inside for access to the adjustment. I can't get to it at all on the passenger side.

Going to the auto parts store, they said it isn't unheard of for this to happen on this model. They said that you just have to break the parking brake assembly to get the rotor off, and then replace. Since that also involves removing the rear axle to get a new parking brake assembly on, I don't want to go this route if at all possible.

Therefore, is there any way I can get the rotor assembly off in another fashion? Is there an adjustment somewhere outside the rotor (cable?) that I can free the slack on, hoping that it isn't stuck completely?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah...

The parts store, IMO gave you good advice...short of taking a torch & cutting the rotor off!!!

Seriously...now....have you removed the cable, to make sure that isn't hanging it for you? I assume you have as you are well-well above average in technical skils!!!;)

Well, yes and no. I can't find anything other than the connection point to the pedal. I didn't want to remove this except for a last ditch effort. Not sure if there were any other connection points (or even, for that matter, if it is removable). I did make sure the pedal is all the way up, and that the cable does have slack. I seem to think the passenger side mechanism is seized, as the driver side is fine, cable and all.

I guess my last step would be to disconnect the cable from the pedal, then? If this doesn't work, I guess I have two options:
1.) Let it go until it absolutely needs new discs
2.) Get it fixed at the garage now, and bite the $600-800 repair bill.

Both options don't sound too good to me right now...

If you had any diagrams for the removal of the emergency brake cable, it would be appreciated.
