Bob Lutz Officially Challenges Anyone to Race Against the CTS-V!
from GM FastLane

http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/

That's right, it's offical. Bob is taking all challenges. He will be driving the CTS-V and the challenge is open to any unmodified competitive production sedan.

Here is Bob's post from GM FastLane...

By Bob Lutz
GM Vice Chairman

Last month, during a discussion with journalists about our “May the Best Car Win” marketing campaign, I was trying to get across just exactly what that theme means. And what it means is, of course, just what it says.

We have a lineup of vehicles that we think, if given a chance, can stack up with the best the rest of the automotive manufacturing world has to offer. One of the examples I cited was the Cadillac CTS-V, and I went so far as to challenge the journalists to find a stock production sedan on the planet that could outperform the CTS-V on the track. I proposed a track duel, “run what ya brung,” at a time and place to be determined.

Well, that time and place has been determined. The guys at Jalopnik.com were the first ones to respond to the challenge, quickly and most enthusiastically, but I suspect there will be more. We’ll be having a full racetrack challenge October 29 at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y., not far from the New York City area.

And I put the challenge out to you. If you own a car comparable to the Cadillac CTS-V (a 4-door production stock sport sedan) and you want to match up against me and the Cadillac, you can join us at Monticello. Follow the link to fill out an application. From the list of applicants we’ll select several challengers to join us for the V-Series Challenge.

As I said in the previous chat, we’re going to take away every last excuse people have not to consider our products. We know that some consumers still think Cadillac cars do not have the top-end performance they believe the German luxury cars have. The development objective of the 556-hp Cadillac CTS- V was to create the world’s best high-performance sedan. In final testing, the car lapped the legendary Nurburgring in 7:59.32, fastest ever for a production sedan (recently eclipsed, reportedly, by Porsche Panamera). In other words, we believe we have achieved our goal of building the world’s fastest sedan, but I look forward to putting that theory to the test … and may the best car win.

Audi would walk away spunked. I hope Porsche takes up Bob on his offer. He might have to dig up John Henriech or whatever his name was to race an Identical CTS V.. to win aganist a porsche test driver driven Sedan

Audi makes nothing that could keep up with that car.
Well, that's what the challenge is about, isn't it?

I don't know... do you guys think blowing my cover and losing your insider is worth seeing me get run off the track by a 78 year old in a Cadillac?

RS4... :lmao:

You're gonna need to bring more to the table than that.

he did this many months ago and was supposed to race Jalopnik in his Mercedes AMG dont recall if it was a c or e?

found it! http://jalopnik.com/5356691/gms-bob-lutz-challenges-america-to-duel-jalopnik-accepts
It was just talk at that point. Now it is official. They have selected a venue and they have posted an application for those who want to participate in the challenge.

Well, that's what the challenge is about, isn't it?

The M5 should be a fun race, but I think the CTS V is more "race" and should win. However I think the Porsche Panamarea turbo's about the only thing I can think of that should top the CTS V in "competitive sedans". But if Maximum Bob drives as fast as he runs his mouth, he should crush all competitors.

In a race, the driver has a lot to do with the outcome.
If Lutz knows the car well, and has the guts to take risk (He obviously does) he should easily spank a Porsche, especially since the Cadillac probably pumps out more torque and is lighter? I really do not know, but it probably has more torque which should propell it out of corners faster than Porsche.

Sure they do, just not in the US.

Anyway its pretty hard to compete with a CTS-V without resorting to purpose-built cars. And it doesn't help that Lutz is actually a good driver...

OK, why not someone challenge Uncle Bob and his CTS-V with a G8/GXP? It doesn't even have to win, just run a close second and show "Uncle Bob" and especially "Fritz" what a STUPID move they made by canceling the Zeta G8, which cost about half the CTS-V. They'll never do it! If you read this Uncle Bob, I DARE YOU!

The idea about a G8 GXP is interesting but we know GM wouldn't approve that one
