An article by Jamie LaReau in Automotive News explains, like someone who has lost some weight or had some plastic surgery, Buick says "Take a look at me now!" (The commercials may be viewed under a separate thread here on GMI.)

Here is a link to Automotive News' story:

The words may be the same but it has nothing to do with Phil Collins' song.

I like the tag line, but im not so sure about the new commercials

To me, "Take a Look at Me Now" also implies that we might not want to take a look "then".

Yet another slogan that fails to make an inference to the "product".

"When Better Automobiles are Built, Buick will Build Them"

My vision of a Buick as well as many others will forever be a pewter metallic LeSabre 4 dr sedan with a gaudy padded landau roof treatment. The whitewall tires are blackened from years of curb abuse, the body has no unblemished vertical surfaces and the driver has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Look quickly because all the owners will have passed away soon.

To add to the vision, this Buick has Michigan tags, is headed down I-75 towards Florida at 49 mph in the fast lane.

"We build automotive mediocrity"
"Wouldn't you really rather have a Foooord"
"Our cars are just like Lexus for real this time"
"Take a look now because I won't be here tomorrow"
"Take a look at our massively reduced lineup"
"We don't need Tiger no mo no mo..no mo no mo"

Hey, I'm only 47 and for your information, the turn signal in my beige LeSabre doesn't "click" loud enough even for me, LOL.

I do believe the new LaCrosse will bring in a whole new group of buyers for Buick. The only past Buick owner this car will appeal to will be the old Regal GS owner. Other than that, it will be people new to Buick buying the LaCrosse, just like the Enclave.

I guess the tagline "Trying not to be for the old and decrepit anymore!" didn't go over too well??

So many negative people and smart-alecks... that plays a part in GM's troubles, too.

It's because we are tired of GM being so d@mn ridiculous and inconsistent. Create a decent tagline and run with it... "Drive Beautifully" wasn't bad. It is lightyears better than this new garbage. Did the Family Guy whales from the South Park episode come up with this tagline? It STINKS

I wouldn't look at it as negativity. It is more like a group of impassioned GM loyalists who feel they have been ignored and are now bitter. I have owned and loved several of the GM vehicles I have owned but frankly, I see, as do others, GM turned into a UAW job protection program financed by my tax dollars to promote an agenda that most of us don't buy into. And, I might add are powerless to change. We have Amtrak and the post office to look to and tell us this is an unsustainable project that will suck down billions or our hard earned dollars and never again become a viable company. I hope that I am wrong but when was the last time government ever did anything right when it came to for profit programs. Once the fed has gotten involved with anything it becomes less efficient, expensive, overly bloated and ultimately destroyed by act of committee. No, we are not negative we are extremely frustrated with the approaching train wreck and feel powerless to change what we see happening.
well said... sums up my feelings pretty well in this whole mess. Bailout was a lessor of two evils - still an evil

I honestly think that "Drive Beautiful" was pretty good for Buick. The new tagline is as smart a move as Pontiac's "Is Car". Now, don't be so harsh on Buick. They are "slooowwlyyy" getting away from the image of old people's cars. I think that Enclave, the new LaCrosse are a step in the right direction. A smaller, sportier Skylark is what's still missing from the line-up. A Skylark in the same game turf as say Acura and Lexus could be nice indeed.

As slow as most Buick drivers in their walkers!!!! :D

THE REALLY BIG NEWS:

Todays WSJ has a centerfold Buick ad. It shows four silver cars: LaCrosse (looking extremely svelte in silver, I might add), Lucerne, Enclave and "Regal Concept".

The Regal is the fourth car in the photo line-up, and it doesn't show much. But it's there.

They're definitely serious about the Regal for the US market.

I wish GM would stop advertising their cars in silver. Something less bland would be better.

Now we just need the RWD Riv, and we're off and running:

Lexus IS fighter! I would love to see this at some track days. Imagine a Buick at a track day.
Why RWD?? FWD is better. It's cheaper for GM. And Buick will sell more because it's FWD. ANd lets not forget the people who live in the snow belt. RWD isn't good. :zippy:

[/sarcasm]

taglines are ok but the most important part are the cars themselves. It's apparent that a lot of Pontiac guys are bitter but they really shouldn't blame Buick for Pontiac's demise. Apparently those cars just didn't sell enough to justify its existence in a struggling company. I do hope they do something with the G8 though even if it got more accolades than sales. Now that it's been in the news more, I think sales have been good for the G8, right? At the very least, maybe they can use that engine in more models.

#30 ·
Uhh Pontiac consistently outsold Buick! I say if the new LaCrosse had been out for a couple years like the G8 and the G8 was brand new, you would see Buick dead and Pontiac still alive!

#29 ·
"BUICK, GM kept us because Pontiac SUX"

"BUICK, Obama liked us better than Pontiac because we had Tiger"

I had to throw some love to the Pontiac guys out there... :)

First of all, I think the slogan is horrible. Slogans that essentially beg people to at least give your vehicles a shot do not inspire confidence. I hate it. I hate that Ford slogan too. Compounding the fact that the two new Buick commercials I have seen were also pretty terrible. I mean, a Buick that isn't available yet, having a photo shoot done of it, in the ocean with lame scenester photogs? really? Who is your market? I'm sure Buick would love to have 20 and 30's somethings as their market, but lets be at least a little realistic. The only reason the Enclave sells down in the age bracket (compared to the rest of Buick) is because of families buying them that want an SUV.

I am really fearful for Buick based on what I have seen so far from the new GM, a nice new product marketed horribly is not going to turn around their fortunes.

I like the ad. And I like that song.

I don't have to. There's a guy around here with a Regal GS with some nice wheels on it that roams around the North Tx. tracks.

Stupid-ass slogans aren't going to change people's minds about Buick. Until the G8 the Driving Excitement tagline was kind of a joke...Ponchos didn't handle all to well and the only real performance car they had was a Camaro. Then the GTO came out and died really fast (which is and was a shame). Only the new product will. People are buying the Enclave. Lexus people. They will buy the Regal (hopefully) and the Lacrosse...hell the most bluehairs I see driving have Toyotas anyway...

It'll take a while, but to fundamentally change a division's perception you have to have patience. Unthinking douchebaggery will linger.
