Details on the next BLS. It's RWD!!!

I have found them to be accurate in the past.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Cadillac-Concepts/232295/

Cadillac is to ditch its unsuccessful Saab-based BLS and build a striking new rear-drive saloon in its latest bid to rival BMW’s 3-series and Audi’s A4.

Called Project Alpha and due in Europe in 2011, the new car will be a key part of General Motors’ latest efforts to make Cadillac a global player. But it will use a rear-wheel drive platform that is currently under development in the US. That platform, also called Alpha, is a development of the chassis that formed the basis of the Holden Torana concept.

Although Holden is now at the centre of GM’s rear drive operations (its Holden Special Vehicles offshoot already builds the G8 for Pontiac), sources say Project Alpha is being engineered in the US, as Holden deals with large rear-drive cars.

Sounds good. It would be nice if AWD would be an option. Is the BLS going to be sold here in the US?

Good to hear. Hopefully it will lead to a smaller more fuel efficient rwd sedan option for Pontiac. I'd love to have a G6 sized sedan in RWD.

but 2011!?! Sheesh!

Still, I just want Holden to get their grubby mits on it and build me a cheap RWD 4cyl commuter. Something similar to current 2.5 Liberty/Legacy 5M would be just right....no not the turbo.

I kinda hope they take a shrink ray to the Coupe 60 concept and put in on Alpha. I don't know if it would look as good as a smaller car, but I'd like to see.

YES! Actually that would work great! Sedan in 11', V-series in 12', and a Coupe/Coupe V in 13'-14':D

The later is one of my potential three second cars (others being a used CTS-V and new Corvette;))

hahahaha, yes I know its ridiculous to talk about the Turbo SS that I'm ordering this November and already have the next car picked out, but hey;) its me:D I like doing that!

I'm not surprised the BLS is still going Alpha. Cadillac is hell-bent on rivaling the 3-Series...more so than they were with the current CTS when it was in R&D. This should be an excellent car by every stretch of the imagination.

I would expect any new car from Cadillac to be RWD. FWD is for economy cars in my book and should not be found in a Cadillac. I know Lexus has the ES350 which is FWD but for me Cadillac should be all about RWD/AWD, Luxury, and Performance.

Just more confirmation for what is nearly-confirmed by GM:

SOURCE: AutoCar

Cadillac saloon goes rear-drive

A proposed technology-sharing deal with Alfa Romeo, which would have given the Italian brand access to Cadillac’s rear drive platforms, was described as having “fallen by the wayside” by our source.

The styling will be a variation on the razor-edge look previewed by the CTS coupé concept at this year’s Detroit show. A GM source who has seen the car described it as “a shrunken version of the coupé” with a more aggressive front end than the CTS saloon’s.

Engine choices are likely to include a V6 petrol for higher-end models and a four-cylinder diesel. There could also be a four-wheel-drive V-spec model that would provide a rival for the M3 and Mercedes’ C63 AMG.

Along with a four-door saloon, Cadillac is working on coupé and cabriolet versions, although these models have not been signed off for production yet.

The new car will not be a direct replacement for the BLS, the rebodied Saab 9-3 designed specifically for the European market. Instead, Alpha will move upmarket in a bid to grab some of the sales volume enjoyed by the likes of the 3-series.

Re: AutoCar UK: Caddy BLS replacement Coming in '11

If that picture is the direction they are taking on the upcoming BLS replacement,
it will help to lure prospective customers to look at Cadillac here in Europe.
The major stumbling block is their aren't that many Cadillac dealerships to get
your car serviced at, and when you get out of the major capital area here in
Southern Finland, your SOL when it comes to getting your car serviced.
Add to the fact that GM's distributor in Europe doesn't do much advertising,
doesn't make for brand awareness. When GM takes back control of their
distribution network they better do a better job than Kromans or they can forget
about building up the brand here.

The car looks really nice, but is that 2011 model year or is it not coming out until the year 2011? It looks like the CTS has to play the tweener role for a long time. Any hints about what the interior may look like?

I simply cannot figure out WHY they won't just take a 9-3TURBO X.. put this look to it and viola we have an AWD Caddy BLS here and in Europe that can earn credibility with a 280+HP V6 under the hood for Europe and a 300+HP 3.6L for the U.S. for the time being. When 2010-2011 gets here switch it over like they plan on doing with the Malibu to EpII:confused:
