General Motors September US sales tumble by still outpace the competition

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Corp. said Wednesday its September U.S. sales fell on a steep drop in demand for light trucks, but GM still managed to do better than several of its fellow automakers.
GM sold a total of 282,806 light vehicles, down 15.6 percent from 334,974 in the same month last year. The numbers compared to declines of more than 30 percent at Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and Chrysler LLC.

Sales of light trucks dropped 19.3 percent to 164,366 from 203,603, as sales of the Chevrolet Tahoe fell 52 percent to 7,374 and demand for the TrailBlazer fell 30.8 percent to 8,773.

Demand for full-size pickup trucks slid 5.5 percent to 53,772.

Car sales fell 9.8 percent to 118,440 from 131,371. Cobalt sales dropped 16.5 percent to 16,521 units, while Malibu sales jumped 68 percent to 19,725 vehicles and Impala demand rose 17.1 percent to 27,143.

Exactly.

And ....

For the month, 29.6% counting Saab, and 29.4% with out versus Toyota at 15.0% - it was a lot closer a just a couple of months back.

The US groups broke 50% collectively...

isn't that something we lost a while back, supposedly never to return?

...somewhat good news i guess.

Toyota down 29.5%. Wow. I mean, everybody's down, but I didn't expect them to drop that much.

You know, really, when all is considered ...... and in regards to every brand..... there wasn't a whole bunch of surprises in the month of September 2008.

GM got most of the what little positive surprise there was.
