Click above for a gallery of the turbocharged APS HSV Commodore.

APS is in the business of making power and that's exactly what they've done for the new Pontiac G8 GT and its Aussie-spec sibling, the Holden Commodore HSV. The tuner's Stealth Intercooled turbocharger setup uses two water-cooled turbos mounted deep into the engine bay, just ahead of the transmission, to ensure underhood temps are kept in check – road debris be damned. According to APS, the system is a straightforward, bolt-in affair, utilizing a right-sized, aluminum, air-to-air intercooler, seven pounds of boost and a pair of TIAL 38mm external wastegates to bleed off exhaust gases and optimize throttle response. While APS hasn't installed the system on a Pontiac G8 GT yet, they've strapped its own blown HSV (with a three-inch cat-back exhaust) onto the rollers of a Dyno Dynamics dyno and produced 557 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque while running 93-octane. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but considering how impressed we were with the standard G8 GT, this setup has the potential to redefine the bang-for-the-buck quotient in the segment.

i thought they had developed a v6 kit...this is pretty standard results.

557 whp is right there with the LS9, on 3.5 psi less. the turbo oil drain is a little low. they say water cooled, but i didn't see ball bearings. it's a mitsu-based turbo, .84 turbine a/r, .65 a/r compressor...nothing more.

it'll be quieter than a standard gt at cruise/idle. the bov is vented to the intake at low openings, for quiet operation, and to the atmosphere at high openings, a little noise.

I can vouch for APS making a good kit. I have their kit on my car and it has been reliable and daily driven. Cost depends upon when you get in on a purchase for them. And what supporting mods you need to work with the kit. I had to buy a few items to support the power levels. Those numbers are pretty good though. That makes it definitely one fun family hauler. :D

Anyone want to take a guess at what a brand new G8 GT WITH the twin turbo installation might cost when all is said and done?
Around $42-44k would be my guess. $30-32k for the car and the rest for the turbo kit/installation.

Is it just me or does that power output seem alittle on the low side. For two turbo's i would be expecting atleast 600 hp and tq after looking at how much power you are starting with.

Considering they are quoting HP and TQ at the wheels, add 10-15% for driveline losses and you have your 600HP.

557hp at the wheels is about a 75% increase in power with only 7lbs of boost and on pump gas. I can't say that I'd expect more power.

At 7 psi, we should see a roughly 50% gain at the wheels, maybe a bit more, if you're just doing numbers...

Stock G8 GTs seem to be putting down ~290-300 at the wheels (we'll use 295 for this example), however, we're seeing an almost 89% (hp) gain at the wheels with the turbo kit. This leads me to believe that the stock GT either has a LOT of restriction in the intake tract or a REALLY conservative tune (likely a combination of both).

Now that's a funny quote right there. APS makes top notch products but bang for the buck might be a bit of a stretch because along with that excellent quality comes a hefty price. I have posted their GTO products before and by the time you get all the necessary parts together and get them shipped to your door you are over $10.000. That puts you over $45,000 for a G8GT with while also killing your warrenty so it's definately a big commitment. It runs low boost because of the high compression of the LS family of engines. If you had a built LS with less compression this kit would make crazy power.
