Anyone test driven the 6-speed manual GTP G6?

I haven't seen any at my local dealerships. How about you? I think the only reader reviews we've had have been with the 4-speed auto.

Perhaps introduced so GM could say "We offered a 6-speed but no one was interested!" ROTFL

I remember reading that the factory was making only one manual trans GTP per week for a while. Has this changed?

I certainly hope that changes! I stopped by my local Pontiac dealer today on the way home from drill. On the pad where they show cars to passing traffic was a silver G6 GTP. When I went in to take a closer look, I found it was an automatic. I don't want this car with an automatic. Period. Get it? Got it? Good!

I intend to write a test of a G6 six speed as soon as possible. That means as soon as I get my hands on one.

Pontiac would be taking a great leap forward in establishing itself as a performance brand, if they would ensure that every single model they sold was available with a manual. Step two would be ensuring that these manuals actually wind up on dealer lots.

After years of offering V6 cars with nothing but 4-speed automatics, I wonder if GM can convince Pontiac dealers to order them, or even get the option on their radar.

Dealers that sell a certain number of G6s should be forced to accept a few manuals in their next shipment of normal cars. Dealerships that are selling G6's like crazy wouldn't be burdened if they had a couple of manuals that sat on the lot twice as long as the autos.

I stopped at my local Pontiac dealership (in Canada) at lunch today to see if they had any G6 coupes. They didn't, but they did have a 2006 G6 GTP sedan. It was automatic, but pretty loaded otherwise: panoramic roof, side and head airbags, leather, blah blah blah. It also came with another interesting feature... a $38,000 price tag!!! I just about fell over! I mean, yeah, it's a nice car... but almost $40,000?!? And that's before tax. Not sure what I thought it would cost... but it sure wasn't $40,000!

I'm pretty sure that's not MSRP. Let me check.

MSRP for the GT Coupe MSRP is 28,000 (wow)
I can't see the GTP being 10,000 more! Maybe for the vert but I think you should tell your dealer to quit smoking whatever he's smokin.

This is so sad, a GM fansite and none of us can find and drive a manual G6. GM get your act together!

According to GMBuypower, a dealer about 10 miles from me has a 6-speed sedan. List is $27950 (employee price $24859), with leather and panoramic sunroof. Buypower lets you narrow your search by more criteria now, including transmission, so it should be easier to find one there.

That would be an interesting test drive, but unfortunately I'm going out of town today for the weekend. Somebody will have probably driven one by the time I get back...

I just did a little search and there's one dealer here in Kitchener who has 4 GTP Sedans and 1 GTP Coupe with the 6-speeds. So guess where I'm going after work tonight ;).

And no, I don't have a camera anymore, so no pictures.

I jinxed myself. No manuals in there BUT I did take a closer look at the G6 GTP Coupe. And I'm in love. Love the proportions, we're talking 350Z and G35 Coupe type proportions EXCEPT THERE'S A BACKSEAT. :) Don't let that small window tell you nothing because it is huge in the back. It has a great stance and looks a million times better in person than in pictures. Now I just need to find that manual version and drive it to see if it will become my next car.

Glad to hear you liked it. I haven't actually seen the coupe in person so I'm not sure what to expect when it arrives (hopefully by the end of the month, more likely in September). It looks stunning in some pictures and awkward in others, so I've been hoping it's one of those cars that looks better in person.

I went out to the automall close to where I live about 3 weeks ago. They had a beautiful G6 GTP coupe there. Unfortunately auto.. but we took it out anyways. Even with 4 guys in the car it was pretty quick. Doesn't have that kick you back into your seat feeling quite like the GP GTP does but when you look at the speedo you are going about 10-15mph faster than it feels. The car has a great ride, gorgeous body, and a really nice interior. I think it's a tad pricey... but with the 6-speed it should be a blast to drive. BTW the manushift mode was much much faster than I expected it to be. Not near as laggy as the paddle shifting on the comp g gtp's.
