Two Franklin Families to Own Dream Home Through Nissan and Habitat for Humanity Partnership
Nissan to help build 13 homes in North America this year 10/29 05:19 PM

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For Franklin residents Georgi Hodge and her daughter, Martha Gilbreath, moving into their new Habitat for Humanity home will be a dream come true. The same is true for Thelma Harrison and her grandson, Chris, who are moving from a small mobile home to a three-bedroom home.

Their homes are part of a $1 million partnership between Habitat and Nissan North America (Nasdaq: NSANY) announced earlier this year. The side-by-side homes were built at the same time during a six-week period beginning in September.
"Having a Habitat home is a true blessing for us. We would not have been able to buy a home in Franklin without the generosity of Nissan and the partnership with Habitat for Humanity," Gilbreath said.
The two families also will get to enjoy many "green living" features in their new homes. The new Habitat homes will feature eco-friendly amenities, which align with both Nissan's Green Program 2010 initiative to reduce its impact on the environment and Williamson County Habitat for Humanity's recent initiative to build Energy Star certified homes. These two homes are the first Habitat homes in Williamson County to receive Energy Star certification.
Each home is outfitted with low-flow faucets and showerheads, programmable thermostats, energy-efficient compact fluorescent lighting and carpeting made with recycled materials.
Additionally, the home is landscaped with drought-resistant plants and shrubs that reduce the need for watering and is equipped with rain-collection barrels.
"Having a home of my own provides a solid foundation for my grandson, and restores my hope that he will be a homeowner when he becomes an adult," said Harrison.
In addition to sponsoring and building these two homes, Nissan also donated a new, 2008 Titan King Cab truck to Williamson County Habitat for Humanity. The truck, valued at over $35,000, will be used to further Habitat's mission of providing affordable homeownership to hardworking families in Williamson County, just south of Nashville.
"Nissan has been very good to us in 2008. Our goal of building 10 homes this year would not have happened had it not been for Nissan's generosity and community-minded attitude" said John Besser, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Williamson Co.
The Hodge / Gilbreath and Harrison homes are the first Nissan-sponsored Habitat homes built in Franklin. Nissan's $1 million partnership with Habitat for Humanity International includes house sponsorships, the donation of Nissan trucks and products and support of Habitat's disaster-relief initiatives.
"The new Craftsman-style homes have been well received by the city of Franklin and are setting the tone for other opportunities in our community," said Gregg Elliott, Construction Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Williamson Co.
More than 350 Nissan employees and executives in Franklin donated time to building the Hodge / Gilbreath and Harrison homes, which are two of eight Nissan-sponsored houses built in conjunction with Habitat affiliates in Michigan, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, California, Georgia and Arizona. Additionally, Nissan employees will volunteer their time to help construct five houses with Habitat for Humanity in California, Georgia, Illinois and Arizona.
"It's been a privilege and honor for Nissan to participate in the Hodge / Gilbreath and Harrison Habitat build," said Alan Buddendeck, vice president, corporate communications, for Nissan North America. "This was an opportunity for Nissan to demonstrate our commitment to the Franklin community and to the environment."

What this has to do with hanging neo-cons, or having them hand in their heads, is beyond me.

Must be some sort of code language. :)

Meanwhile, good for Nissan, good for Habitat.

I like the Habitat for Humanity progrm. I tried to sign up one time, but they kindly told me that that had more then enough general labour than they could use but needed more skilled people! Since I have no actual house-building skills I couldn't so it.

With all the foreclosures would it not in many cases be cheaper and easier to provide houses for more people if they just repaired older ones?

NeoCons love this kind of stuff, where people give freely of their own will, without government dictating how much they should give and administering it through several unionized bureaus.
The only reason Habitat, Catholic charities, salvation army, doctors without frontiers, operation smile, etc are successful, is precisely because the government is not involved. They stay out of it, and people give where they feel the money would be most useful. Habitat for humanity is Neocon heaven.

So it's simply soneone who doesn't want to waste their mony or have government waste their money?!?

It DOES sound menacing... I thought that it was some hardcore vigilante group or something!
With politics becoming more polarized the last few years, people from the left seem to call all conservatives neocons. Its become a simple insult.

Mind you, with the bank bailouts, insurance company bailouts, car company bailouts, etc., a lot of neocons have recently become socialists. How quickly things change. :lmao:

American Neocons should hang or hand in their heads in shame !

Too bad some people can't leave politics out of an otherwise good story.

And of course we all know the Democrats were 100% opposed to the bailouts...

A "new" conservative. "Neo" makes it sound all threatening and menacing. :yup:

Fiscally and socially conservative.

Wikipedia has a good description:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoconservatism
A constitutional conservative is fiscally and socially conservative. A neo-con is not.
A neo-con is a government-growing international interventionist. If you thought education was in a mess in 2000, look at it today. NCLB, thank you.

Wiki = BS.

Great Warrior is a neo-con. He is not fiscally conservative. He is not socially conservative. He IS a sellout: see No Chile Left Behind, nation building, endless war with no strategy, lack of essential judgement of character (Vlad=I could get in a foxhole with this guy!).

What's a NeoCon?
LBJ + Jimmuh Carter = Great Warrior Bush = neo-con.

The operative part of the term is CON.
And there's nothing neo about that profession.

Now, as to my original question: WHAT THE HELL DOES THE TITLE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ARTICLE?

Granted, the OP is semi-literate on a good day.
But this article is a general interest piece, it has nothing to do with neo-cons, democrats, republicans, communists, socialists, or pigs with wings.

A smidgen of thought might be in order before attempting to create political chaos.

Same here. I ended up helping out in the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. Did you know the founder was booted out of the company for beign a sleeze-bag? He's started some other sort of off-shoot.

True!!

At some point, the liberal faction will own Habitat as well. About the time that the home recipient starts complaining about having to put some time in the construction of their home as well as others. "You mean i have to work for the home?" "Can i sell it when its done?"

We agree, but I sure wish you had worded that differently! Government involvement would kill or badly weaken those fine charities, but lack of government is far from the only reason they are successful.

Take that!

Habitat for Humanity is great. It gives folks a hand-up, even though it seems like a hand out, the folks have to pay for the house/improvements, but it is at a very reasonable rate. The costs are offset by the free labor. It is win-win for the folks that need it and the folks that don't want to pay higher taxes for give-aways.

For those that sit on their duff all weekend, get up and do something!
A little work might extend your pathetic life.

Cheers to Nissan for investing in the people and culture of the U.S.
