Alfa Romeo has been returning to the USA since the day they pulled out of the domestic market. And after about 35 years of delays, Alfa is returning with the midengined 4C, which you (yes, you!) can have for just $54,000.

I like to think of the Alfa 4C as the Porsche Cayman's sexy, carbon fiber, Italian nemesis. And from what I'm hearing from people who have driven it, it sounds like that is the exact case. It has the looks, but might not be as good to drive as a Cayman.

And sometimes, those imperfections make a car better.

At $54,000, the 4C will cost slightly more than a base Porsche Cayman, but as we've said ad nauseum, the Porsche Cayman's base price is basically never the price of a Porsche Cayman.P

The 4C will be in the USA during the second quarter of 2014. I can't wait to get behind the wheel and see if loving an Italian in person is like seeing the pictures.P

The people who drove the 4C are all enthusiastic about it. Can't see how Alfa can be making money from the 3,500 cars it will be producing annually. Despite the almost Cayman sticker price, the 4C is expensive to make. No competitor for the Porsche Cayman, the 4C will most certainly hurt Lotus Elise) sales.

I'm a long time Alfa enthusiasts but at 54 grand they are way over priced...same for that little Porsch.......aaahhh ;)

JMO....Way to much cabbage for these low powered little cars...

In my opinion 40 grand tops as is...I don't care what its made out of....

Really should have 300hp at that price as well....(only if they want my money)

Hope they are a huge success.....as I said earlier Alfas are a favorite of mine...

This. Still too much money for this car IMHO. I don't doubt they'll sell out given the low volume, but I wouldn't part with that much coin for it. It is cheaper than most were expecting, but any higher and it would have been DOA.

Why do yall think this is soo expensive? i mean it has a similar ****pit design as a Formula one car, carbon fiber, Fiberglass, light weight aluminum, 0-60 iin 4.6 seconds, does the Ring iin 8.04 seconds. weights 2,100lbs, has a high spec (and expensive) engine offered in the Top of the line Giulietta?? Yea, at 70 Grand that people THOUGHT it would cost is quite pricy, but 54K is right there with a Elise (47K) but that has way less HP.

The competition eats this car alive....

I dig alfa s with my history dating back to 1963 when my dad had a white gullietta (sp) it was a 1300 cc white convertible....he went on to own a 1967 red duet to and a silver 1750 spider....

I really have such great memories of the brand. I re,e,ber we used to route (sp) for the Alfa GTV in under 2 liter trans am series...

Still this new Alfa 4C leaves me cold. I just think it should have 300 hp from a two liter turbo and I would have been more impressed at 54 grand. I also think the headlights would benefit from a more traditional glass covering.

8.04 "ring time" is not impressive and should be better.

I don't know what year testing data your checking ...and even though the ring time is a bit over used....I really found back in the American Alfa heyday that the relative price of alfas would translate today closer to 40 grand for this product as it sits today....

I really hope that the Alfa enthusiasts buy the limited edition 4 c and its a success.

I personally feel its at least 10 grand too high.

Porsche is an iconic brand with decades of brand identify and to assume a cute little 240 hp 2200 lb mid engine sports car from a nearly defunct brand should price itself so closely to the cayman is an error beyond the very limited quantities Sergio is discussing.

This boutique piece is a statement for the direction of Alfa....and I feel Sergio has it in his mind to go toe to toe...where he could afford to offer a slight value proposition.

Its my passion to see Alfa succeed that brings these statements to this discussion.

Back in the late sixties I believe the base corvette was 5500 and the Alfa spider ran about 4000 ....maybe 4500..

Porsche 911 was much higher and the 914 was a joke with its vw engine..

I also happen to think today's Porsches are way over priced......so its a bad example to copy for success..even Porsche owners are balking at Porsche pricing recently..

I believe with the increase in cost at approximately 10 times....I'm closer to what Alfa enthusiasts want.

I sure hope Sergio doesn't price the upcoming Mazda mx5 Alfa spider at more than a few grand above the Miata and no where near the price of 4c....

Surely don't give it less than the 240 hp it deserves...

I like so many aspects of the 4 c but the hp is 60 ponies low and the price is at least 10 grand to high.

Its not even on my consideration list at this point and those headlights are hideous.....(and an obvious savings of money...

This is not a kit car.

This little Alfa has a better chance of challengine Porsche than the vette.

I actually like how its as close to kit car light without being a kit car. Doing all the prep and putting kit cars on trailers is a chore. It gets old quick. I like how its light, yet drive it to your mechanic for maintenance/repair after a day at the track.

Anyone care to have a go at explaining this

Extracted fro caradvice.com.au.
Alfa Romeo UK announced a ÂŁ45,000 ($76,500) price tag for its new rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, making it more than ÂŁ5000 dearer than the Cayman ($67,500) and roughly ÂŁ1600 more than the S5 coupe ($73,800).

While in Australia the entry-level 202kW/290Nm Porsche Cayman costs $107,100 and the 245kW/440Nm Audi S5 coupe $135,400, the Alfa Romeo 4C is expected to be positioned in a more affordable bracket.

All of them have the luxury car tax in Australia and the Alfa is roughly the same price but both the Audi and Porsche are $60,000 dearer here. I wouldn't think options could make that much difference.

At least Alfa will do a 4C in RHD.... Which renders the Corvette almost as unobtainium here, it will be over $100k with private companies importing and converting them in very small numbers.

But we get the S5, the Cayman, the Elise, the 911, Lambos and Ferraris.... In RHD.

Sydney Morning Herald had a piece this morning. They say the 4C will be released in Australia at a price between $75k & $120k. Evidently 2 versions coming at two different trim levels and at different timings. 80 orders taken, which I think makes it a sell out (or close to it) assuming those orders are confirmed after people get to see the thing and test drive it.
