Hi guys, my 97' GTP, when going to start it, you hear the fuel pump kick on. The car runs for about 3 seconds, the car stalls. When it stalls, the relay will kick the fuel pump back on then it will start again. I started the car today, and it kept on running. This evening, when starting it again, it did it again, start, then stall. Could it be the fuel filter or fuel pump? The car doesn't have an alarm nor security key. Any info would be great.
Thanks a lot!

Today yes it did stay running only at like 2800 rpm to 4000rmp or the rev limter anything less then 2800rmp it want to stall but when I restarted it I reved it again and slowly eased off the pedeal it stayed running so I drove it home ran great lots of power got home started it a couple of times ran great I went back an hour latter did the same thing run for 3 sec then shut off I held the gas this time did not try to stay running at all so thats were Iam right now bud!

The classic failure is of the fuel pump resistor when it starts, then dies. If you keep WOT it will bounce off limiter around 4000.

Looking at your picture in avatar it looks like you have the factory-replacement resistor that mounts up on the firewall instead of in the fender, so it may not be the problem.

There is a way to remove the fuel pump speed relay and bend one of the pins so it doesn't fit in the hole that bypasses the resistor and makes the car run. You may wish to try this. Search gpclub and such.

The weird thing is that yours sounds flakey. When it happened to my father's 1998 model, it ran great every day until it failed when it never worked again.

It's that thing with the two wires underneath the black steel plate with the bolt in the centre, right there staring at you with the hood open, closer to the alternator than the brake master. Search "gtp fuel pump resistor" on google and you can find better info... I forget which pin to bend.
