Super V! Spy shooters uncover dazzling, 600-hp CTS prototype

By AUTOWEEK

Even the spy shooters were dumbfounded by this dazzler from Cadillac. Many dubbed it CTS-V Plus, only to retract that information, noting the presence of a hood scoop on a car with no superchargers or turbos in its future must mean it is merely a CTS test mule. Our sources beg to differ, however.

We’re told this beast is the forerunner for the maximum General Motors Performance...

Since when is Cadillac the performance division of GM? I gues they're making the CTS into what the "GTO" should have been sort of. That is one hell of a Chevillac but somehow it lacks pedigree.
Well, at least there is a 600+ HP Corvette as well, REMEMBER GM's RULE CANNOT HAVE ANY CAR MORE POWERFUL THAN THE CORVETTE!!! Just build them both GM. The Cadillac will go head to head againdst the next BMW M5 and the super Vette will take down Viper's and GT'sand hell maybe a few Lambo Murciagolago (can't spell).

although that would be cool if that was a "rule" in GM but with the extream amount of attention cadillac has been getting the past few years i cant see chevy and the corvette keeping up on the horsepower numbers.

cadillac may beable to take away the highest GM hp away from the vette, but Cadillac will never have the "true american sports car"

Agreed. Although there have been many rumors flying about the Corvette "Blue Devil" with possibly a V-10?? Remember that another GM rule is, Chevy must keep up with Ford.

Lord not more what the GTO should have been talk.
This is great but just a regular CTS-V with a semi-automatic transmission or 5/6 speed auto would probably impact sales more.

My local dealer has 2 CTS-V's and they are sitting because the "typical" Caddy owner doesnt shift his/her Caddy for him/herself.

GM has built 5 speed autos for other companies for AT LEAST 10 model years (the 5 speed auto in the 1995 BMW M3 was a GM piece)....why they dont put these in their own cards is beyond me.

Maximum engine torque for the 5L50-E is 311 lb/ft. It would take a major rework to beef it up enough to handle the LS6.

There's a 6L80-E in the works for 2006, to be used with the 4.6 and 4.4 S/C Northstar, and the LS2, but I don't think they currently have anything with more than 4 gears to handle that much torque (unless they dropped in an Allison! :p )
 500, 600, 700 this is really getting old. There's so much speculation about the final Hp...whats true??? Why should we believe AutoWeek now? This article from AutoWeek doesn't have any new info, it's vague just like the others. I think i'll wait to read the official word from GM before I believe anything.
Your kidding, only 65K for a car that will make you crap your pants when you hit the accel. Thats over 20 grand less than a Viper with only 500hp. This is down right sick, and if built the only car I would sell my soul for.

And oh, how this makes the Skyline GT-R look like crap in comparison. This thing will be the cheepest most bad *** 4-door lux. super family hauler you can get your hands on. The M5 still would cost 10 grand more and still gets its butt kicked big time.

This better be real because I'm currently drooling all over myself. :woot2:
Sweet! That Super V is what I want when I win the lottery.

Very different from the Cadillac Super Stretch:

i think caddy should be exempted from that rule since there going after BMW and MB. plus its prolly only gonna be this one car if it is built. course why not the XLR and the Blue Devil.

M-B has 5 speed autos in their AMG line that can take over 500 lb/ft so it cant be a question of "can this be done" it is more like "do we want to do this".

Maybe they should just buy these transmissions from M-B if they dont want to develop their own. ;)

IMO if they are going to go after BMW and MB with the "regular" Caddy product line and the M and AMG product lines with the V-series they have to upgrade the transmission choices.

With 500 lb/ft of torque, you should be able to get along with a 2-speed Powerglide like dragsters have. :D

Like I said, they are working on it for model year after next. In the meantime, the CTS-V was never meant to be a volume piece, so the lack of an automatic isn't a big deal. Cadillac already uses 5-speed automatics in the CTS, SRX, and XLR (and soon the STS).
Some people appear to be having a little too much fun in Germany...

Dude, what is your malfunction?

Listen, that 5 speed that they sold to BMW is IN the CTS, just not the V. THEY ARE DEVELOPING a 6 speed auto that will handle the power. The Tremec T-56 in the CTS-V is one of the best manuals around. Does BMW sell an M5 with an auto? Uh no.

Stop nit picking reasons to dump on caddy when they are coming out with a 600 HP engine.

Also, I would like to point out that when the article came out saying it was the CTS V plus, I said the there must be something we dont know about it because of that hoodscoop, seeing how the LS2 isnt physically bigger than the LS6. I guess there was somethign we dont know.

 Seldom do I laugh out loud, but MING that super stretch Caddy was a classic!!

I think this Super CTS-V can't come soon enough. Cadillac needs to prove it's back as the "benchmark" world class auto maker and this is just the car to do it!!
