Looking at a truck upgrade, wondering how the 6 speed auto behind the 5.3L is? Looking at a 2012, 4wd 3:42 or 3:73 crew cab.

Are the trouble free? A long life span if maintained?

Gms 6 speed automatic is good but if I could I'd try and get the new 8 speed automatic ...

Supposed to be an even better transmission.

Jmo and only if you can wait.

I have an '09 1500 CCSB 4x4 w/ 5.3L & 6-speed auto and 3.42s and it's a good combo. I average 18mpg in mixed driving in the summer and 16.5mpg in mixed winter driving. The power is decent through the power band thanks to the extra two gears. Not sure I'd be as happy with a 4-speed in the same engine and gearing setup.

My current truck has 3:73 and is excellent at teowing and taking off. Prefer 3:73 for taking off.

Will see how long I can go before I get a newer one, brand new Is most likely out of the question.

The sun fear issues the older 4 speeds had, did they resolve them?
