HSV Power Play Not Over Yet

HSV boss says local power war hasn't ended yet, as it eyes a 7.0 V8 and supercharging.

HSV is not about to follow the lead of AMG by calling for an amnesty on rising horsepower outputs, saying there is still more to come from Holden’s hot-car factory.

Responding to comments made to GoAuto in January by AMG’s boss Volker Mornhinweg that Mercedes’ high-performance partner will not chase big power gains, HSV boss Scott Grant told us at the Melbourne motor show last week that HSV’s lifeblood is developing new products.

“I think there’s a little bit more to go for us,” he said.

Not a pretty topic with me when oil is at 105/barrel!
Since when did AMG call a cease fire on HP wars?

That's not very German of them :D?

***If you can't tell that's a joke***
Cant wait till Wheels or Motor do some comparisons of this car its a absolute beast, i do hope that HSV has some kind of Hybrid system in there future maybe BAS+ or 2 Mode cause with all these monster powerplants there fuel consumption will be quite high
Remember, corvettes get around 30 mpg when driven sensibly. Throw the big power at them!

Well true but this vehicle will be 1500 - 2000lbs heavier than the Vette and will be lucky to get 15mpg.
Didnt GM decide supercharging the LS7 was a bad idea? Im all for it but still this sounds like a grenade waiting for someone to pull the pin.
They only have till 2020 to get as many cool cars on the road as they can! V8 by the masses!

lol i like that!
Well given HSV and FPV had been avoiding going over 300kw/400hp for a long time I don't see what the big deal is, the German's have their v10 & v12 engines and have been going over 300kw for some time.

It is about time Holden or Ford produced a vehicle that went over 300kw.

Yeah, didnt GM's supercharged LS7 mule burn to the ground? Or mabey it was LPE?

It was the turbocharged ZR1 mule that burned.
Given the W427 will likely never be used for daily driving, I can't see this being a concern.

Holden wheeled out the W427 for the show as that was the most advanced version of the three 500hp motor mules they had.

I would say if the response in expressions of interest which they were collecting at the Melbourne Motor Show wasn't there, they may simply go direct to the LSA version they are known to be working on, which is probably more sensible, not only because it is cheaper as an engine, but has better low-rpm characteristics than the cammy LS7 which suit a big car better.

That gives them the option of going to the LS9 for a OTT vehicle.
DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! BRING IT HOLDEN!! show em what a good ol supposedly low tech pushrod V8 will do! MAKE SOME US SOME FUTURE ROAD LEGENDS!!

Quit bitching. If you drink Starbucks you're paying upwards of $16 per gallon.:D
Those HSV's are just rugged......like Chuck Norris....:D :drive:
i doubt they mean a more powerful car than the 427, probably more like a power increase across the rest of the range
Well he either means a power increase in the rest of the range (ala LS3) or the LS9 is getting some showtime in Australia. Anyways. The W427 looks way better in Iszzy's pics. It is an absolutely amazing car. Restrained style but still aggressive, far superior to the M5 in restrained aggression. very nice. I prefer this sleek style to the crazy 5 foot tall spoiler with chrome spewing out of every oriface style that people thought HSV was going to adopt. The W427 is a feat in itself. One of the fastest 4-door cars in the world. How nice is it to say that!!! Finally, Australia hits back to Europe and American sports cars. This is the birth of HSV's international recognition as masters of design and engineering. Oh and by the way, although I adore the front end in those pics of it (not CGI stuff), I can't help bu think the front-end is missing something. I think the front bumper is missing a more hungry opening. I did a mod in Photoshop of the W427's front end which is what I think is more fitting for its performance and obviously whats under the bonnet. Although the mod I did is simple, it makes quite a difference. What do you guys reckon?
