2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV vs. Equinox EV: What’s the Difference?
Comparing specs and details between these hotly anticipated Chevrolet electric SUVs.

The compact 2024 Equinox EV and midsize 2024 Blazer EV are built using General Motors' versatile Ultium battery platform, providing for a range of powertrain options in each electric SUV. As Chevrolet works to get these EVs on the street, here's an overview of the similarities and differences between the Equinox EV and Blazer EV.

Powertrains And Performance
Most Equinox EV models will have a single motor powering the front wheels, though dual-motor, all-wheel-drive versions will be available. That's also true of the Blazer. However, the Blazer will also have a single-motor RWD option—making it one of the few vehicles in history to offer front-, rear-, and all-wheel-drive setups.

Range And Charging
In base 1LT trim with FWD, the Blazer is estimated to have 247 miles of range, essentially identical to the Equinox's 250-mile estimate. In 2LT trim, FWD Blazer models can cover about 293 miles on a charge, again quite close to the FWD Equinox's 300-mile estimate. Choosing AWD on either of these should bring range to approximately 280 miles. The Blazer ekes out an advantage in maximum range: Its RS trim can cover an estimated 320 miles, likely with its FWD powertrain setup.

Technology And Safety Features
Both the Blazer and Equinox come with an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster display. The Equinox has an 11.0-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard, and a whopping 17.7-inch unit is available. That big screen is standard on every Blazer model. A head-up display will be offered on each vehicle. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, semi-autonomous parking capability, a surround-view camera system, and a wireless charging pad will be on the options list for the Blazer and Equinox.

Size And Cargo Space
Information on sizing for the Equinox EV and Blazer EV is scant, but we expect both to be about as spacious as an average compact SUV but with a slightly lower seating height. Chevrolet has confirmed that the Equinox EV will not have a frunk, as space under the hood is taken up by its motor and charging hardware. Similar packaging in the Blazer EV will potentially preclude it from having a frunk, as well.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Or 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV?
The huge power of the Blazer EV SS appeals, but even lower trims cost more than the Equinox EV. Smaller expected sizing might make the Equinox EV a little easier to wheel around, but the Blazer EV's greater variety of powertrain options and longer available range could make it more versatile. For now, this much is clear: These two electric SUVs will help Chevrolet build an advantage in the gasoline-free future.

I like that new Equinox. The range isn't too bad but, for me it's not there yet. When you can recharge these things to a "full" state in the time or very similar time that you can with ICE and be on your way for another 290 to 300 miles, then we'll have something. Not these quick charge situations that only give you so much of a percent of full either... YES I WANT MY CAKE and... TO EAT IT TOO :D ;) :) !!

As you should! And the batteries should last as long as the ICE engine and not be any more costly to replace

The rear-wheel drive Blazer EV RS model is claimed to have the longest EV driving range, estimated at about "515km" best range beating FWD/AWD Blazer/Equinox the other 4 offerings range.

The cheapest Blazer front-wheel drive will have about 400km of piss poor range while the high-performance dual-motor all SS will have about 477km of range, AWD will cost a fortune make few sales on Scottish mountain top where 0.000000001% of the UK live, pretty pointless in London that gets hit by a snowflake once ever few years where 1/6th of UK population live, better range is most important.

No more drive-trainisms with the Blazer EV, rear wheel drive offers the best range no longer excluded will sell like hotcakes.

Equinox only offers two drive trains, and is a bit more cramped if you enjoy driving putting your family in more of a sardine tin and saving a few bucks, EV range LOL.

That's kind of true. I'd like to know what the stats or dimensions are going to be compared with what I've got too.

The styling of the Blazer EV is outstanding. My girlfriend has a Blazer right now and I am trying to see if she would be interested in the EV. She is saying it will be too expensive but there aren't many cheap options anyways.

Here comes the 'same sausage, slightly different casing' era. Again.

These 2 really could be consolidated into one vehicle.
Good point,
Current Blazer is 191.4 inches long, 76.7 inches wide, and 67 inches tall.
Current Equinox is 183.1 inches long, 72.6 inches wide, and 65.4 inches tall.

That extra length and width in the Blazer adds up to a lot more car but in some ways, I see your point regarding merging the two and selling just one car with more room that’s the competition. Could GM be just dividing up sales that could be covered by just one model

I’d say thats a pretty significant size difference, like current Nox/Blazer. Given mania for crossovers seems fine to have two models. IMO

I think GM has gotten to a point with its CAD design development process where it's cheaper and faster to build new variants to bolt onto its EV component sets. I think consolidation of models will be less of a thing - variety may become the rule.

Separately: fascinated by the RWD model Blazer. Will they do a non-fire-breathing model that's set up for the best possible handling on its sporty RWD setup? Sorta like the newest Porsche 911 variant, the T model - base engine, lighter weight, simpler, set up for the joy of driving, not comfort or eye peeling performance or prestige or any of that.

They (the gassers) are also kind of aimed at two different markets, in this day of having 947 different CUVs to fill every niche.

The Equinox is more entry level economy, especially now that you only get the <200hp 1.5T. The Blazer is a hair bigger but you start with the 2.0T and can get the 308hp V6 in the higher trims, so it's a bit more "performance oriented" (let me pause to lol @ a performance oriented GM CUV). I can confirm even the lower trim Blazer drives a lot more sporty than the Nox.

Removing the powertrain from the equation and having them on the same skateboard type platform though, I agree GM probably doesn't need two cars, but then again with the modular design of that skateboard it probably doesn't cost much to nip and tuck in a few areas to make the difference between a compact and a midsize while keeping the nameplate recognition going.

Also, we don't want to look like everyone else out there by all driving the same thing... ;) so a difference is good.

My two cents is we will see a lot more variety as car makes really only have tech and styling to separate themselves - I'm assuming electric is electric and we won't have big differences in electric motor feel the way ICE engines can give a distinctive feel to a car. Blazer seems to me to be aimed at a different crowd than the Equinox, but could GM get away with the two being the same size? I think GM might run into trouble with that in regard to pricing if they are the exact same cars with different sheet metal as they did in the 1980's.

Same size isn't necessarily dreadful. GM used to run 5 different versions of the same cars in different divisions. OK, some of those WERE dreadful, but you can differentiate with styling and trim levels. Auto companies make a lot of sales based on little more than the image a vehicle portrays.

But they got into a lot of trouble with the 5 car thing as people quickly realized they were all the same and GM had no real way to charge materially more for a Buick vs. a Chevy.

They DID sell those vehicles that way for decades. They only got into trouble when there was very little differentiation offered between them.
