The all-new Buick Encore is scheduled to make its debut sometime next year, before heading to the market as a 2020 model.

Spy photographers have caught the new crossover testing for the first time in Detroit, and unfortunately the heavy camouflage is preventing us from seeing which direction Buick is taking the new Encore. It will however, ride on an updated platform that's currently found on the Chevrolet Bolt. Expect the Buick Encore to grow in size, while its exterior styling will follow in the footsteps of recent Buick models. The new platform will also help the Encore shave some weight.

Performance should be improved on the next-generation model with the turbocharged four-cylinder engines getting a boost in power. An even more powerful variant to compete with the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40, models that offer over 200 horsepower, is also a possibility.

Inside the cabin, look for a next-generation infotainment system and other new comfort and convenience features to make the Encore more competitive in its segment.
