Preempting the 2016 LA Auto Show, Cadillac debuted the 2017 CT6 Plug-In Hybrid with more than 400 miles of range.

Besides powertrain, the CT6 PHEV is different in other ways; notably this will be the first Chinese Cadillac, and the second made-in-China-model GM imports for US consumption.

Cadillac's new plug-in uses a new electric variable transmission which helps meter out power in smooth and powerful doses. It uses a two-motor EVT system linked with a 2.0-liter turbo four-pot which is good for a total system output of 335 hp and 432 lb-ft of torque. Each electric motor kicks out 100 hp each, and together can propel the car to a top speed of 78 mph, and provide 30 miles of silent range. The CT6 PHEV will probably hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, and provide 400 miles of total driving range

Estimates indicate the CT6 PHEV will return 65 MPGe--an equivalent fuel economy figure for non-traditional propulsion systems, allowing for comparison with conventional internal combustion engines.

"The CT6 is a technological showcase throughout, and by far the lightest car in its class, making it an ideal platform for electrification," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in a statement. "In the CT6, Cadillac presents a new formula for prestige luxury. The advanced Plug-In Hybrid system is a key addition, providing a combination of exceptional fuel economy, crisp acceleration and strong electric-driving range."

Just like Cadillac's last foray into the plug-in segment, the press release features a few passive aggressive swipes at all electric competitors. Statements like "no requirement to find charging stations along the way," and "removes all range anxiety for our customers" are rather unnecessary and amplify Cadillac's glaring lack of an electrified strategy.

The CT6 PHEV arrives in spring of 2017 priced at $79,095 before applicable incentives. The plug-in will get it's own exclusive equipment groups, which bake numerous high-end options, like Night Vision and the rear camera mirror as standard kit.
