2015 Mustang Outsells Camaro in November

Sales of the new Mustang are off to a good start.

Not surprisingly, the 2015 Ford Mustang has increased its sales by 62 percent compared to the same month last year, moving 8,728 units in November 2014. That means that Ford sold about double the amount of 2015 Mustangs as Chevy sold 2015 Camaros last month.

Ford also revealed people’s buying decisions when it comes to the new car. The American brand says that 52 percent of buyers are choosing the 435-hp 5.0-liter V8 in the Mustang GT. The other buyers are split right down the middle with 24 percent of customers choosing the 3.7-liter V6 and 24 percent taking the new turbocharged I-4 EcoBoost engine.

So far, 20,000 new Mustang fastback have been built and shipped around the U.S. and Canada and preparations to begin shipping overseas are now underway.

Not so ugly now is it?
What's this? A brand new model getting favor over a rapidly tiring design?

/Goat scream

Still ugly. Give me the 11-14.
not so ugly now is it?
lol!

Anyone who thought the new Mustang wouldn't fly off the lots was crazy to begin with.

However, nothing unexpected here. Brand new Mustang versus old Camaro. We'll see how these two battle it out over the life cycle.

Interesting that the V6 and 2.3 EB are each at the same 24% of total sales.
Who is really surprised at this? The first major redo of the Mustang in ten years. It SHOULD sell.

There are still some '14s mixed in with that number though. Buddy just got a screaming deal on a GT Vert.

True.

What stands out to me in the "Pony Car Wars" historically is that the Camaro, a model that was discontinued for something like 7 or 8 years, came back and within a few months was outselling the Mustang. Even with a couple of "Refreshes" to the Mustang until this new one came out.
Over half are GT models. Impressive. But maybe because of pent up demand from enthsusiasts waiting for the car to come out.

That part didn't surprise me at all. Camaro has always had a very loyal following, so there's always been a pent up demand for a pony car that wasn't a Mustang. So you bring a "new" car in to reignite the pony car wars and people jump all over it. It didn't hurt that the car was heavily advertised years before it came out, and was featured in the Transformers movie(s). I honestly would have been shocked if the Camaro didn't outsell the Mustang at least in its first year back. Beyond year 1, I can admit that I've been pleasantly surprised. The Mustang has outsold the Camaro/Firebird (combined) almost every year since day 1, so to see the 5th Gen, at this age, continue to outsell the Mustang is awesome.

More on topic, it is not surprising to see the new model outsell the competition's old model. Camaro will have a strong surge when the 6th Gen launches, then Mustang will surge with their next design, and so on. The world continues to turn.

It's heavier and has the same drivetrain sans live rear.

Dunno about that.
Pent up demand would increase sales for the past month.

Never thought it was ugly, that's too strong a word. But it doesn't look very good.
So the obvious question would be how many sales were 2014s and how many 2015s? Same for the camaro.
Not a surprise. Will be interesting to see how the next few months play out, especially if the next gen Camaro is shown at Detroit.

Thanks for the laughs and your right...

The split on gt versus v6 and turbo 4 shows pent up demand on v8

Even more telling how little the unit sales drop on the camaro was...

Less than 15 percent drop for the month?

Considering the latest mustang and the hellcat fervor from dodge....

I'd suggest camaro sales are strangely impressive...

I think the hellcat halo casts all over the dodge lineup...

Best job as a halo launch I've ever seen....well done dodge....

Even better halo car than the viper.....strangely enough...

Nota perfect pony by any stretch of the imagination but at 60 large it's got the every man thinking NELLCAT! Is possible.....;)

November sales of Mustang were strong, Ford would be pleased about that as the new model is the majority of sales.
Actual buyers of new Mustang are seeing more benefit with improvements over the negative from weight gain, I think this puts to bed recent critisism, the car still performs well over the quarter mile but the handling is miles ahead of the old model, a big step in the right direction. Sounds like I-4 Turbo and V8 sales are split slightly in favor of V8 owners.

I won't dwell on this too much but GM knows it needs a new Camaro, this is the in-between time where it has to work with the Zeta and keep getting sales until the '16 car arrives. The +20,000 inventory is a concern but may indicate that strong incentives are coming soon...

Agreed, the Hellcat phenomenon is amazing. Love that car!
Jpd80, did you read the article? It cleary states the splits for the different motors.
