The American quarter-ton pickup is back, and it ain’t half bad. In fact, it’s all good.

The 2015 GMC Canyon and its twin, the Chevrolet Colorado, mark General Motors’ return to a segment that’s been abandoned in recent years by domestic brands and dominated by decade-old trucks from Toyota and Nissan. It’s not a big one — Toyota sells about 150,000 Tacomas a year, and Nissan half that many Frontiers — but GM thinks that’s due to a lack of effort, rather than a lack of interest.

It definitely put some work into the Canyon and Colorado, which for the most part are mechanically identical, differing mainly in sheet metal and trim. The Canyon has a brick-like, heavy-duty face, while the Colorado’s softer lines are aimed to attract laid-back outdoorsy types who’ve spent most of the 21st century driving crossovers.

Nice to see another positive review of the mid-size twins!

Very cool that GM has pioneered the new technology "4G Wi-If". Why mess around with Wi-Fi when you can have Wi-If!!!!

What's impressive is they're not resting on their laurels, and the next generation, "the WT-Fi"
is coming soon!

Yawn. A useless and oversized product that is from a company that hasn't built a "good" pickup in forty years. These aren't compact - they are oversized and bloated asian pieces of garbage. Instead of building a competitive full-sized truck, this company that kills its owners and denies it has made a 7/8ths scale monster priced like a full-sized truck that can't deliver fuel economy of a compact.

America wants a compact truck - not something that is overweight and oversized.

What's that?
I want these and the new Trailblazer offered in 4.3 & 5.3 versions as well
You can't get a sunroof with either! Why?
I don't think they will get many people choosing these over the Tacoma after the new one is introduced. Toyota reputation is a hugh advantage over the GM reputation. I think GM has lit a fire under both Toyota and Nissan and they will step forward big time. They didn't need to work hard before because they had the market to themselves and the last products from GM was a poor product while the Ford competition was much older than theirs.
I disagree, the Toyota redesign was signed off on way before these came to light, I predict it will not be a radical departure from the Current taco.

Yup and it'll retain the exact same drive train as well.
Seems GM slipped a new V8 into these lol

2015 GMC Canyon 4WD SLE Crew Long Box

Base price: $35,235

As tested: $38,915

Type: 4-door, 5-passenger pickup

Engine: 3.6-liter V8

Power: 305 hp, 269 lb-ft

Transmission: 6-speed automatic

MPG: 17 city/24 hwy
So I built two trucks last night.

My Canyon came in at $26k. The F150 (yes, I know, finally saw one in the flesh last night) was $38k. Lots I can do with that $12k.

And people say there is no market for the small twins.

I drove both recently. Love the overall package, but the transmission calibration needs some work. It rushes to get into top gear, and holds it until you really give it a stab, and then it screams up to 5,000 RPM. I think it should have a more intermediate mode that kicks it down a gear or two under light throttle. I think the added torque of the diesel will probably help in this regard.

It's funny! It looks like they type a story and never look it over for mistakes.
Over all, decent review. GM did a good job on these trucks. I like the more upscale look of the GMC myself.
Saw a Canyon yesterday. That is a good lookin' truck.
It was parked next to a Sierra and the size difference is considerable.

You are correct. The Toyota (and Japanese) reputation for quality is why the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan outsell the Ford F150, Chevy Silverado, and Dodge Ram by such a huge margin. Of course, we can't overlook the massive sales of the Honda Ridgeline which are clearly because of Hondas reputation for quality.

Or perhaps the sales were high because they had no domestic competition.
Toyota's new taco.....yawn.Not any mention of anything new under the hood for 2015.Gm has nothing to worry about from toyota.Nissan on the other hand is gonna go big with an all new Frontier for 16 I believe with a Cummings ISF diesel and an 8 speed auto. That just might be worth waiting for. Here's your new taco:
here's the Frontier mule, with the Cummins:
