HERE IS MY UPDATE ON THIS

Dear all,

I wanted to provide an update on my vehicle search. Unfortunately, I have decided to give up on the car that I was considering due to several concerning issues. The Detailed Vehicle History report, which I obtained after a VIN check, revealed an Odometer roll back reported, a fire incident, an insurance loss record, and four different persons having used the vehicle. These were among some other undesirable attributes that the car had.

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who offered me advice and support during this process. Your help has been invaluable in guiding me toward making an informed decision.

Thank you all once again for your assistance.

======================================================================

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in the market for a used car and I came across a 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. The car has an engine of V6, 4.3L; FFV; VVT and a salvage title status, which means it has been previously damaged and repaired. The seller is asking for $25,000, which seems like a good deal to me, but I'm a bit hesitant about the salvage title.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with buying a car with a salvage title? Is it worth the risk or should I avoid it altogether? I've heard that insurance can be more expensive for a car with a salvage title and that it may be difficult to resell in the future.

On the other hand, the low price of the car is definitely a draw for me, and I've heard that salvaged cars can be just as reliable as those with a clean title if they were properly repaired.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with salvaged cars, or anyone who has any thoughts on whether or not this is a good deal. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

IMO that seems a bit strong to me with it being a salvage title and a lower end package with the v-6 option.

I'm seeing plenty of Ltz and high county's in the 60-80k miles mark for around that price. Is it low miles and i take it thats a club cab right? I will say it looks to be in good shape but with it being a salvage you are at the whim of the guy who made the repairs, some are good, many are terrible and hacks.

Yeah I was thinking that price seemed steep given base engine, but you didn't mention miles and I know the market is silly right now. It's got LTZ Badges, Tow Mirrors and aftermarket wheels/tires, so it doesn't really seem like the type of truck I'd expect to find a 4.3 in?

Is there any way to find out why it was salvaged via Carfax or similar?

I'd also check w/ your insurance to see if they're willing to insure salvage title and as you said, see if there's any sort of additional premium to do so. Also be sure your state doesn't have any restrictions about registering a vehicle with a salvage title.

I suspect a front end hit. The black bumper and aftermarket grille/headlight set up kind of give it away. LTZs came with chrome everything up front. Check under the hood for a misaligned/bent radiator core support, bent up fender wells, etc. Also take measurements to make sure the front end isn't askew. Go diagonally across the engine bay with the hood up - both should be equal. From the photo the panel gaps look OK, so it's possible this actually is a good repair and the guy decided to jazz up the front end in the process.

All of that said, the price is way too high for a salvage vehicle.

How many miles?

Any idea why it was a salvage? Usually flooding or severe damage that's cost-prohibitive to repair. How does the frame look?

It says LTZ on the tailgate but I didn't think you could get an LTZ with a V6. Maybe? And it's got a bunch of other incorrect parts for an LTZ. Be aware of that. I'd for sure run the VIN to see what trim it really is.

IMO buying a vehicle with a salvage title is a fools purchase. You just buying someone else's junk, putting "lipstick on a pig" as the saying goes.

Was someone killed in the accident that totaled it?
Was it a flood vehicle? Flooded vehicles are the worst as you can never get rid of the odor, its will come back on a hot summer day. Remember in floods, the flooded water almost always contains sewage.
Who repaired it and how good of a job was done and will it be nothing but a pita.
Don't be fooled by looks and low price, the seller probably cut corners everywhere they could to make a $$.

Sorry to be so blunt but a friend got screwed on a Chevy Blazer years ago with a salvage title. It turned out to be a P.O.S. built with used junk yard parts, read used junk. He could not trade it in as no dealer would take it as it was branded a salvage vehicle. Lost money. I tried to tell him to not buy it but the price had him hooked. He was going to give it to his daughter but when he found out how shoddy it was repaired, he would not let her drive it.

My thoughts:
If it is a true LTZ, then no way is it the original engine, as LTZs came with the V8. That means the rebuilder likely cheaped out on the rebuild as much as possible. It could also support the earlier post about possibly being in a front end collision.

Or, it is more of a base truck and the rebuild added the LTZ badging for some reason (probably to make it look better then it was) to try and boost the price.

Decoding the VIN will tell you the truth, but either way, I personally wouldn't go anywhere near a salvage title vehicle. Plus $25k for a 8 year old V6 full size truck? That seems way to high, even for a non-salvage title.

Yikes, about the only thing that poor truck hasn't seen is a flood it looks like! You can see it was rebuilt with china made aftermarket jegs catalog parts too.

Your a good example of why pulling a vin check is a good idea when looking at buying used, this truck no matter how good of a job was done to it is a basketcase!
