When l look at the car manufacturing & registration numbers it makes me wish GM, Ford & Mopar were better at doing the Japanese car market.

With 12 million new car registrations in the European Union l think that l have underestimated the size of the car market there, and the importance of places like the UK that is the biggest buyer of both Ford & GM products in Europe.

When l look at world truck production numbers and the huge sales/profits classic pick-up trucks generate in the North American market, it makes me think just how fragile Ford & GM really are. If a Russian type geo-political storm blew up in China, or gasoline bounced back to $150-$200 a barrel once the Saudi Arabian - Russian oil gas - Fracking price war ends. Both GM and Ford rely very heavily on North American truck profits and Ford & GM are still losing billions on making cars in expensive places to assemble like Germany in Europe who have been hit by drops in sales to places like Russia.

How many European-built Opel cars are sold in Russia?

I thought most of their models were locally-assembled CKD from Chevrolet in the US and Korea.

GM Europe (Opel renamed) is now responsible for sales in Russia so are taking a hit with the current political situation there.

2014 car sales were 2,476,435 for the UK.
