Re: 2010 Ford Mustang In The Nude!

Imo, it looks good, but not different enough from the current one, i was hoping it would look more like the Giugiaro Mustang.

I agree...that is quite a tame re-do after all this waiting and suspense.

Yeah. I was getting the feeling this was going to be a tame warm-over of the current model and looks like my impression was correct. If people were getting tired of looking at the Camaro concept, then don't bother with the Mustang.

I think someone needs to revisit the definition of "nude."
That would be Jalopnik, i've changed the title to make it clear

Well, depends what you mean by warmed over. Not a single piece of sheetmetal or interior panels are carried over, but as you can tell, the same basic structure and chassis design remain the same, albeit further tuned for better driving characteristics.

The interior is much improved, and loses all of the hard plastic of the current model in favor of a squishy dash.

Engines should be interesting. Like it's been said, the Mustang is all-new for MY2013, but new engines will be rolling out before then.

For MY2010, the V6 is replaced by a much hotter (and LIGHTER) 3.5L engine, while the V8 gets Ford Racing tune standard for a HP boost.

MY2011 gets the 5.0L V8 at long last, as well as the 3.5L turbo (in full-on 425hp tune).

looks good. Not as radically styled as i thought it would be but for a MCE its pretty good. I just wonder how folks can see the taillights considering some of it is painted on and the rest is covered by leopard skin.

Also, we have word that the V6 will NOT be carryover for MY2010... it is getting the new 3.7L DOHC engine, good for at least 270hp and much lighter than the current 4.0L boat anchor under the hood.

It is nude, just has a real bad skin rash.

New wrapper, same horrible taste.
Actually kinda like the look of it, they got rid of that big dumb looking nose and actually made it look like a modern car.
This took two more notches to the Camaro side of the retro scale, and away from the Challenger.

I like the Challenger, but I put the Challenger in a whole different catagory than Mustang and Camaro. The Challenger is soooo much bigger than either of the other two. Plus, to me at least, the Camaro for sure, and the Mustang to a lesser extent (with the redesign) arn't so dependent on the Retro aspect of the segment.
