I had a crewcab 450 2wd with the 6.4 and it was the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned.. I could not get any better than 8mpg without pulling and put a catback, cai, gutted the dpf filter and it gave me 1mpg out of it.

I could not wait to get rid of it.. I will never buy another Ford in my life again.

That 6.4 diesel is junk.

None of the other HD diesels get good mileage either.............. with all of the emissions garbage.

The new Cummins gets about 1-2mpg better than the Ford, and you can expect the emissions version of the Duramax to do about the same. The reason is, they are much lighter than the Fords.

Does GM and Dodge even make something comparable to a F450???
The Duramax should definitally be getting much better mileage than the 6.4L, as it does not have the latest, hideous, emissions equipment on it yet. They are getting that sometime in '09, I believe.

The brand new Cummins gets crap mileage also. You will not see many people talking about it yet, as the engine is too new.

Welcome to the world of emissions compliant, low sulfer diesel, truck engines. Someday, diesel emissions will not affect the engine much............... much like it is with gas engines today. Unfortunately, this tech, for diesels, is about 20-25 years behind the gassers.

If you want the better mileage, get the older diesels.

BTW, my husband drives diesel big trucks, and they are having alot of problems with the new emissions ones. They spend more time in the shop than driving.
