Very sweet indeed. I like the dual pipes on the back as well as the powertrain. How is the press going to rip this one apart? Cant find any standout faults. Look out Rav4.
GM could build the perfect vehicle and the biased auto press would still find fault with it while praising a lesser Toyota product.

Would look a lot more sporty if they lowered it about 3 inches. (Look at the gap in the wheel wells.) I very much applaud them not using the "SS" moniker. The only way I would agree with slapping an "SS" badge on it would be if it was rear-wheel-drive (converting FWD to AWD doesn't cut it performance-wise) with over 300 horses (preferable motivated by a V8).

very nice i love the trailblazer SS accents on the exterior. sport is most likely just to attract more buyers since the SS name is more of a higher sporty image that might turn away some familys that just want a nice looking truck. i dont think that many family oriented females would buy this if it had the SS name on it. sport is a more milder name for it.

Wow - I am shocked. This is the best Equinox yet. I was really expecting Chevy to just drop the 3.9L in there and call it done. In stead we got the slick 3.6L DOHC engine with the all new six speed auto.

Way to go GM.

here is a very crappy picture of the SS I took. I refuse to get better pictures, it's in a place where I should not be. If I would not have sold the company that has these a few cars than I would not mind getting more. But.. I was told about the location of these, so I feel I should not be taking pics while it's on that companies property.

ANYONE NOTICE THE CAR TO LEFT IN THIS PIC?? WHAT IS IT?
(it was posted on the first page, a few down.)

The official pics posted above show an AWD badge on the rear of the vehicle.
Yeah, I know that. But it's a transverse mounted drivetrain, which is a FWD architecture.

SO glad they didn't call it SS.

Looks great.

For the same reason To/yota starts the R/v4 with a 4 cylinder.
:(
But the 4 cylinder RAV actually gets good mileage. I recently rented an Equinox and put over 300 miles on it of mostly highway/rural driving with lots of cruise control usage. The NOX averaged a pathetic 20.8 MPG according to the computer, and I normally get excellent mileage when I'm trying to. My 03 Impala with the same engine, but GM’s excellent 4T60E has averaged 28 to 32, winter to summer in mostly rural and highway driving over its 95K mile life. Two family members have Ventures, with the same 3.4 as the NOX, which weigh more, have lesser or equal aerodynamics and always get 25-30 MPG on the highway.

The Aisin 5 speed shifts very nicely, but it is obviously one of the most inefficient automatics made in recent history. GM needs to ditch this transmission ASAP. The rotten mileage of the Equinox and Torrent would be a deal-breaker for me, and apparently for other potential buyers as well. The Aisin doesn’t even fell like it has a lock-up torque converter, but I know that's not possible, is it? Sales will continue to languish as long as the MPG numbers are this horrible on the NOX.

Well, obviously this is the only Equinox to get. I'm glad they have upgraded the seats since the regular models have the most uncomfortable seats I've ever experienced in a car. I sure do wish they would AT LEAST upgrade LS and LT models with the 3500 V6 or better yet, the 3900. The exterior looks great, though I agree it should be lowered a bit, like the Trailblazer SS.

Much much better. Still needs separate lift glass in the rear to get my sale though.
Finally, a real complaint about the lack of a feature that makes sense on this class of vehicle!

I can't believe some of the bitchin' about all kinds of trivial crap. The Equinox has just made a MAJOR step forward and is becoming a great vehicle. The real victory is in the powertrain. I hope the standard '08 model includes the 6-speed and moves up to the 3.5L VVT from the Impala.

Chevy already made your dream ride - it's called the Trailblazer SS...

x2.

My Ion gets freakin dismal mileage because of that piece transmission. What's worse is the fact that it never finds the right gear and goes for overdrive at the slightest throttle lift. It get's scary when you get to the bottom of an on ramp and you have to wait for an Aisin board meeting to convene on a decision for second gear... Let's just say that the board doesn't decide too quickly and usually figures third gear is okay for merging from a 20 mile per hour crawl. Stupifies the whole car this transmission!

I own an '05 Equinox. While generally we have been pleased with it, the transmission and engine are both lacking. I am glad that they are fixing this on the Sport model.

The interior upgrades are nice and much needed.

One feature on the Equinox that we have really found to be highly useful is the sliding rear seat. It's fantastic and provides much needed flexibility between cargo or passengers...with the seat in the back position, the legroom is impressive. One other major plus is the external styling (even the taillamps, LOL) - we have had many, many positive comments from folks concerning the external styling.

Wonder if they did away with the prop rod for the hood. Not essential - but a cheap touch that is noticable anytime you lift the hood (which I do for oil changes or when I wash the car).

The name of this thing is the least of my concerns. People buy for the looks and performance, not the name of the trim level. Half the posts on here have been about the disappointment over the name. Who cares? This is now one of the best 5 seater SUVs under $30k. I am willing to bet it will leave the Edge in the dust because it weighs 500 lbs less.
