WOW, It looks good AND has the 3.6L DOHC engine WITH a Six-Speed Auto? NICE!!! I got home late tonight from class and this was a really nice surprise.

Good job GM!

An improvement over the regular model, although the front end (even with the body-colored bar) and the tail light are still disappointing me. And why Sport? Why not RS? I still think resurrecting the RS trim badging would solve a lot of the issues people on here with SS being overused.

Looks like a good way to finish the line with a sport model, before the new Vue/Equinox come out soon. For some reason it looks better than the RL, and not waterdown the SS name either. Good move, and the only thing left is to see what its numbers are.
the new Vue is a 2008, and this says Equinox Sport 2008, so doesn't look like the Chevy will get the update the Vue is getting, if they are both 2008 models. Am I right?

This Equinox looks great, but wish it had the front of the fuel cell version.

I'm just glad they didn't call it SS, but Sport works fine for me too.

I think you make a good point with the RS business. I said the same thing when Chevy unveiled the Cobalt SS and the Cobalt SS/SC. Arguably the only one that deserves the SS designation is the SS/SC --- and the "normal" SS probably shouldn't be. I know why Chevy did it and I kinda agree with a special designation -- but I personally thought they should have called it RS (or any other "mid-level" designation --- make one up!). In years past, the RS name was almost/nearly as hallowed as the SS nameplate --- but it certainly would work well for instances such as this.

Til then, Sport is fine!

THANK YOU GM for not calling this an "SS" Although very attractive and modern through and through (surpised by the 6 speed auto and 3.6) it would have ripped to shreds by the media (comparing it to the Chevelle, Camaro, etc.). And that interior..is it me or is GM finally "getting it"

quote: "GM’s high-feature 3.6L V-6 powers the Equinox Sport. It is a DOHC engine with variable valve timing that delivers 263 horsepower (196 kW)* and 250 lb.-ft of torque (342 Nm)* – a 42-percent power increase over the Equinox LT. The 3.6L engine is paired with a new Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic that provides an excellent balance between performance and fuel economy. This powertrain combination delivers performance that would be the envy of many sports cars, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of less than seven seconds.

The Equinox Sport’s underhood acumen is complemented with a performance-tuned suspension. A long, 112.5-inch (2,857 mm) wheelbase and wide, 61.8-inch (1,569 mm) track give the Equinox a stable, confident road feel, while the Sport’s lowered ride height, specific shock tuning, control arms and larger, solid stabilizer bars add to its more responsive, sporting driving experience. The overall ride height is reduced by about 1 inch (25 mm).

The front suspension has a MacPherson strut design with new control arms and stiffer, hydraulic bushings and slightly stiffer springs. The rear suspension features a four-link independent layout with stiffer bushings.

GM’s innovative StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, front and rear disc brakes with four-channel ABS and tire pressure monitoring system all are standard on the Equinox Sport – as they are on all Equinox models for 2007. On AWD models, the automatic all-wheel drive system has no buttons to push. It engages automatically when wheel slip is detected." end quote.

This is the vehicle my wife has been waiting for!!! I keep on telling her about the wonderful 3.6 VVT engine and the new jointly developed GM/FORD 6 speed automatic transmission. She reminds me not to forget about the new hydraulic power steering which will enhance driver feedback. I retort, don't forget about the lowered suspension, larger 18" wheels and the sport-enhanced suspension system.

Boy, my wife can't wait to get her hands on this baby....jam that gas pedal and feel those 263 wild ponies unleash their fury!!

Top it off, with the new side-bolstered seats, blue-glow IP and the twin tail pipes, she'll love goin about her daily chores. I may have to resort to begging to get my turn behind the Sport Nox.

OH GOOD GRIEF!!!
I fail to see what's so special about the Day-Glo IP!!!! I hate that!!!
when's the last time you said anything positive about a new product? 263 hp running through a 6-speed w/tapshift and you're bitchin about interior lighting? not even to mention the dual exhausts, better seats, better wheels, new fascia, improved stack, stabiltrak, and countless other goodies in a sensibly good product?! sheesh!

I think the exterior is going to be too dated by '08. It's gonna be long in the tooth

Im mixed on NOT calling this SS. I think that GMPD should be the only ones to sign off for SS, GXP, and Z and V series stuff. But, on the other hand, this does sound like a very super sporty SUV. Large rolling gear, hi-po V6, 6spd auto, retuned suspension...sounds like a real winner! Calling it just a sport feels like they are selling the vehicle short...but will now compete directly with teh Rav4 Sport, packing a 263hp 3.5 and 5spd auto. I cant wait for this comparo. Very cool Chevy, very cool. Now lets see a revised front end to match the rest of the GMT900 suv's.
