Just more retro wheels for a retro car. Not bad, definitely recapturing the late 1960s look of the car it was inspired by. Many baby boomers will likely flock to this car as they drove the original when they were kids (or wanted to).

I sat in a 2005 Mustang at an Auto Show this week -- the interior is very, very nice. The 2005 Mustang GT interior is just as awesome or even better than the current GTO -- and for a considerably lower MSRP.

The new Mustang is a great value -- Chevy needs a competitor and quick!

Seeing it in convertible form, I realize that the 2005 Mustang really does look like an evolution of the 2004 model. If you ignore the front end detailing, or if you view one from a rear three-quarter view, the bodyside profile is very much like the 2004. I'm not saying that any of this is a bad thing. I just think that the whole package is much less retro than some people believe, especially with the roof cut off.

Become informed. Nothing about the 2004 model except the MUSTANG name is carried over to the 2005. One was built off the modified FOX platform dating back to the Ford Fairmont while this one is a modified platform from the Lincoln LS and comparable Jaguar model. The only thing that is similiar is that these two models still have a long hood, short deck which are hallmarks of Mustangs.

GM needs to bring back the Camaro and Firebird yesterday. They needed a GTO like they needed another rebate.

true, but the styling is much more of an evolution of the SN95 Mustangs than most people give it credit for, and i think that's what parakleets was getting at. we all know it's a completely new car, but even so it still has a bit of an evolutionary look. i love the 'Vert. that's just awesome.

The ultimate chick car....Mustang Vert.
i see plenty of guys driving Mustang 'Verts. the V6 version is pretty girly, but the GT 'Vert is still pretty much a guy's car.

Become informed, Laser. If you'd read his post, you'd have seen that he was DEFENDING the Mustang from critics who like to say that its too-retro looks are a step backwards in design. He commented that from rear angles, you could see how it was an evolution of the previous-generation Mustang's styling. I think you need to take a deep breath before hitting the Post button.

Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck! How could Ford even make this vehicle? I can't believe the front face on this legendary model. How ugly could it get. I understand it is 'retro' but it doesn't look right. And the interior stinks. I don't really like this car at all.
I don't even care for Ford, but one would have to be in denail to admit that this is one good lookin' stang that will probably be pretty successful. :drive:

....Um, I believe that I am pretty well informed. I know who, what, when, and where the Mustang comes from. As others have said, in my defense, my statement was meant to defend the new Mustang against charges of "retro-ism". While I recognize the influence of the 64-69 Mustang, especially in the design of the front-end, and tail-lights, I don't find the overall appearance to be that radically removed from the 1994-2004 models. Again, I'll say that this is not a bad thing, as the previous body style was pretty nice, at least before they added the weird scoops and "Edge-Design" details. With the convertible doing away with 35% of the sheetmetal, the top down appearance is even more evocative of the previous models. I am curious if we will ever see concept sketches, or clay models, for the development of the 2005 Mustang? It will be interesting to see if they explored an evolutionary development of the front-end of the 04 model, attached to bodyside and rear of the 05.

I agree, it does have the profile of the 04 looking at it from certain angles, and can look like an evolution of the 04. Good looking car none the less..
And LW was right (another one of the few times i agree) Mustang is never a Cabrio....

The cabriolet looks even better than the coupé.

Cabriolet - "An automobile with a folding top; a convertible coupe."

Coupé - "A coupe everywhere but North America"

They do make a Mustang Cabriolet. :p

Now they just need to get them to the dealers.
