Yes, the autronic eye, or "guide-matic" was offered on Cadillac and some other upscale GM cars through the 50's, then Cadillac kept the option almost exclusively through the 60's(though I have seen some 60-70's Oldsmobiles and Buicks with the option too, but it's very rare after the 50's) and well into the mid 80's it still was available, I think that it finally disapeared in 1989. The device dimmed the lights automatically when the headlights of an oncomming car reflected in the autronic eyes' photocell sensor, pretty cool, then when the car passed, the high beams clicked on again, the car has control on the dash to set the dimming distance from near to far.
