a 2.8 instead of the 3.2 for the cts???? What is wrong with them?
if it's not s/c they have no excuse: even with the manual tranny, given the size/weight of the cts, it will be slow as hell... what a waste!
heard that n/a it will be good for 205-210hp, with no low end torque: like a cheapo *** :(

The 2.8L is to attract Europeans to the CTS. I think its a great plan. The 3.2L is too close to the 3.6 so add some choices. The 2.8L produces around 200HP and should prove to be very efficient.

I hope it will be worthy (sell well), hell, even bmw had a puny 4 banger 1.8 in their 5 series in Europe
now they have a 2.2 I6 good for 170 lousy hp on their 5

this is what i found from cheers and gears...dont know how reliable it tho so im not taking any responsability for it...

(approx. target ratings for unreleased engines)
2.8 PFI LP1 205 hp
2.8 light turbo LP9 (Saab) 230 hp Jan 04
2.8 high turbo LP9 (Saab) 290 hp
3.2 PFI LU1 225 hp June 04
3.2 light turbo (Saab) 250 hp
3.2 high turbo (Saab) 320 hp 360 lb-ft
3.8 (Holden) 250 hp 262 lb-ft (less power, more torque than LY7 3.6)

GM has previously stated that the HFV6 can be reliably boosted to 370 hp (probably in the 3.2-l turbo).

hope that helps and make every one happy. i like those saab engines...

I don't have a problem with the power rating of the 2.8 n/a. What bothers me is the torque delivery, wich means that someone will have to rev it to the sky to take something out of it, wich isn't ok for a upscale brand like caddy, but works on accord/camry junkers.
Either way, if this will boost sales especialy in europe, good for them!
I also believe it will atract people who want an economical car...

talking about what the client wants:
"I'd like a cadillac big and powerfull as the sixteen concept but economical as a prius, all for under 20k??"

I think revving an engine is fun, as long as it's not around 9,000 RPM like some Hondas. If it's midrange RPM, then it's much more fun than having low-end torque. I honestly don't find it very fun driving with the RPM pointer at "2" all day long. Then again, I'm a driving kinda guy.

It's a sports sedan. They're naturally supposed to be revvy. Revving is a part of driving... not cruising around town with your million pound feet at 230 rpms or some such crap. It's not like it's going to have 150 lb/ft at 6000 rpms.

Quit bitching and use your noggin. Sheesh

I thought Caddy was going to redesign the Deville for '05. What's up? Did they just put it off until later?
STS is the '05 model. DTS will be introduced in '05 for production in '06.

The 3.2 is left over from the Catera years. GOOOD BYE! The 2.8 is fine. Id still like to see the 3.6 make more power. 265 in the CTS, 275 in the STS and SRX.
Is the Lade getting a total redesign inside?

CTS continues to be the only Caddy without Magnetic Ride Control as even
an option.
That would add ever more money to the CTS sticker, its just too expensive. the Escalade doesnt have Magnetic Ride Control

The 2.8L V6 CTS is there to compete with both the BMW 325i in price and the 525i in size. And beeing both of those cars sell with there BASE engines VERY WELL around the world this move makes sence. The 525i starts around 40K and sells good with only 178 or so HP so the 200+ HP CTS 2.8L should be fine.
