Chevrolet is introducing a 2004 Impala Indy SS to commemorate its long relationship with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500-mile race. The limited edition model will have a production run of 4088 units and is currently being offered through select Chevrolet dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. The Indy SS package is based on the new-for-2004 Impala SS sedan. At its heart is GM’s 3800 Series II supercharged V-6, delivering 240 horsepower at 5200 rpm and an impressive 280 lb.ft. of torque at 3600 rpm. The torque curve is consistently high over a broad operating range, providing instant off-the-line acceleration and ample power for highway merging and passing.
Unique to the Impala Indy SS are 17-inch chrome diamond-cut aluminum
wheels, monotone cross-lace grille with “gold” Chevy bowtie emblem and a rear
spoiler. There’s no doubt as to the connection with the 2.5-mile speedway, as Indy’s famous “winged wheel” logo is found on the front fenders and instrument panel, as well as embroidered into the front seat head restraints and floor mats. Like the standard Impala SS, the Indy SS is available only in a monochromatic black exterior, complimented with grey leather seating surfaces inside.
The Chevrolet Impala Indy SS is built at the Oshawa Car Plant.

Three of the local dealerships have one of these Indy Impalas. Not much to set it apart other than the polished wheels and small Indy logos. Oh and the gold bowtie. Why not red? I like special edition packages and all, but I wouldn't pay extra for a few logos.

1st, gold bowtie. i remembered reading in thecarconnection.com that chevy would be going with gold bowties for all vehicles, previously it was only for trucks.

as for rest of car, i agree with you there, just crappy logos. few other things included though, logos on floor mats, and headrests. an indy paint scheme is what is called for, just as with the monte carlos. think they left it simple so a dealer can just slap on all the things to make it a "impala ss indy". this IRL "offical car" (not pace car), type of scheme could have looked good, there was also a matching trailblazer.

Speaking of the Aveo, the Chevy dealer I bought my Camaro and S10 from has a red Aveo hatchback with yellow flames on it! They have it parked right up along the road. Too bad I can't post a picture of it.

Is it against the law for the Impala SS to have a ebony interior like the Monte Carlo? For a car that is offered in only black and now can have chrome wheels, having a choice of the tan or gray kind of takes the edge off a tough car.

Does this mean that there will not be a "Pace Car" edition of the Corvette this year, it is the car that is going to be pacing the race, it will be driven by Morgan Freeman, the actor.

Heres a link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/raci...nindy500pace.r/

Wow, a fully 2 toned, pinstriped pimped out Corvette pacing the Indy 500 and no fully 2 toned, pinstriped pimped replica version available at the dealer, thats like Christmas without Christmas trees!

This makes it the 6th time that the Corvette lead the pack at Indy.

Personally...I think it would be kind of cool to see a Cadillac XLR as the official pace car.
