2000 Chevy Tracker ignition problem

We have a Tracker and the key is stuck in the ignition. YOu can turn it on and off, but all efforts to remove it fails. Any suggestion? Is there any GM tech bulletions on this. The person driving this car is a college student stressing out over finals right now
Any help would be appericiated

I don't see a TSB for this...

Some cars had this problem due to the brake transmission shift interlock failing...

Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed from the Ignition Lock Cylinder
Inspect the following components and inspect the following conditions:
• The lock cylinder for damage
• If equipped with an automatic transmission, the shift lever position
• If equipped with an automatic transmission, the shift linkage adjustment
• If equipped with an automatic transmission, the park lock cable for binding​
