Sorry if this has been posted already, however I noticed that for 2009 the Cobalt and G5 will be dropping the 2.2L ECOTEC and 2.4L ECOTEC VVT and is replacing them with the new "LAP" 2.2L ECOTEC VVT L4.

HP: 155 @ 6100 RPM
TORQUE: 150 LB-FT @ 4900 RPM

I'm curious to see what the MPG ratings are on it and whether it has better performance than the current 2.2 and if it's close to the current 2.4.

Well it's nice that a $15,000 car has 155 HP standard. But what does this mean for the G5? Will the GT be getting a HP downgrade? Or is the 2.4 staying, in which case you would be spending $4,000 extra and only getting another 16 HP...

According to the Online Ordering Guide that's the only engine available now. I think it's ridiculous that the G5 doesn't offer the 2.0 DI turbo considering Pontiac is supposed to be a "performance" oriented brand. I'd even be happy if they offered the 210 HP 2.0L ECOTEC turbo from the 9-3 on it.

Who cares about more efficient engines? GM doesn't have anything worth putting them in. I'd worry about making a good car before worrying about efficiency.

Also the one good thing the G5 and Cobalt have going for them is their strong performance. Take that away, and these cars just got very very boring.

Yeah, that would be such a crappy idea for GM to lead rather than follow.

2.4L is gone on the G5 GT.

Cobalt Sport is gone as well. The most you can get is a base model "2LT" with sport appearance package. Has the same look as the old sport but:
* no StabiliTrack
* no 4-wheel discs
* no sport suspension. Pathetic.

The G5 GT retains the sport suspension, StabiliTrack, and 4-wheel discs but still only uses the 2.2VVT.

Perhaps the 2.4 is getting the direct injection treatment for the all new 2010 model...hrmm

I bought a new Toyota a few year ago and it was the worst car I ever owned!! And I've own many. Look at the Camry with all it's recalls. So, go blow smoke elsewhere!!!

What gives? It's only 5% better than my 2.2 Vectra (Victoria) who turns 10 in November. (Thogh the plateau style torque curve would definitely improve driveability and no doubt, economy)
