As stated in the subject, I believe I have a problem with the blower fan as it only works on the highest speed (first only one speed stopped working, now 3 of the 4 don't work). I can get a new blower motor (if this does sound like what it is causing the problem), however, 1) I don't know for sure this is the problem and 2), is this something I can do myself?

Does this sound like a typical resistor problem that would be solved by a new fan? Also, does somebody (heres talking to you GMCSonoma) have a diagram as to what needs to be done? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Just to throw it out there, it could just be a bad switch. If the fan is still moving air, the motor might still be fine. When you do have the fan on high does it still blow a lot of air, or is it weaker than what it should be. Also do you hear any noises.

Just might thoughts, I could be wrong.

hahah welcome to the club thats the number one thing to go wrong on a Jbody. all it is is theBlower Resistor i think its like $20 at napa heres a pic of one. if you go under the drivers side glove box look under it theres the blower motor fan. take that out then i think its againt the firewall you will see 2 screws. unscrew them and this switch will come out. pop in a new one and your all done. i had a bad one on my sunfire and on my friends cavalier.

I guess it could be a switch. The problem originally was just the lowest speed (2 through 4 worked fine.) Then, today, only the highest speed works, and the other 3 don't work at all. (Sounds as if the fan is just off.) Since it was just the lowest speed that didn't work for about 6 months, I figured this day would come.

01sunfire01, I read the links you sent, but it refers to only speeds 1 and 2, not 1, 2, AND 3. I wonder if my problem might be different (then again, maybe not.) I will look under the glovebox (which I assume you meant passenger side), to take a look.

99% of them are the resistor. One by one the speeds burn out until your are just left with #4 which is full power.

resistor block, if you have high speed only, then its the block. blower motor high speed does not run through the resistor block, it is fixed from the switch. its not stepped down through resistors.

all you have to do is get a new Resistor and you will be fine. 1 and 2 speeds go first because they are the ones that get used the most normaly. there is no OFF for the fan speeds unless you turn the heat seting to off. the passanger side is where everything is. up in the corner you will see a black round thing thats the motor. the resistor is right on the back side of it. there 5 screws for the whole job
