My Grand Am has developed a noticeable noise coming from the front of the engine. It sounds as if it is coming from the harmonic balancer. Quite noticeable at idle, but mellows out at higher engine speed.

What would the process be to repair the balancer? Any other possibility? Possible repair costs from a mechanic?

Thanks a bunch... I took the front wheel off, looks like a relatively straightforward job... are any specialty tools required?
