well, the check engine light is weird.
but the gas light- and its erratic operation may be related to sulrfur buildup on the float and its resistor. some people have luck by running several bottles of techron in several tankfuls.
to help remove some of this buildup.
in this pic (mustang sending unit), note the float- and where its attached to.
depending on the amount of gas in the car- the slider moves across the resistor. The variable resistor- gets buildup of sulfur- and you get the erratic fuel gauge.
