According to the service manual the entire heater case has to come out of the car which involves the whole dash board. The job pays over 8 hours, it is very involved.

 

good luck. thats all i can say. really nice thing is, is the hidden screws in the dash. you can barely get to them, and im sure most people probably just pry the dash out anyways. rather than facing forward like all the others, these actaully come in from behind on an angle, and are located by the a pillars, by the firewall, but inside the dash. another fine design by the fine people of GM. kind of like the rest of that car.

 

Well I got the dash out lol...what a mess, Still have to get the air box assembly out, I got it to shake around but am still looking for fasteners with no real luck.

I hate this car.

 

Did you disconnect the heater hoses, remove the refrigerant and disconnect the A/C hoses too? If there is a hose on the A/C drain that will need to come off also. I have never worked on an Aveo but there may be some fasteners under the hood.

 

Yah the lines were T'd off awhile ago and there were 5 bolts on the firewall holding all the air box assembly.
I'm past the hard part now anyways lol, just gotta re-assemble everything

 

i find it hard to understand how a 2004 heater core could be bad.
do heater cores usually last for longer than this?

my 1992 beretta lasted for 12 yrs then the new cheap one I put in lasted 4 yrs. I think things are made cheaper these days or I'm just getting to old?
