Folks,

Ive got an '02 Bonneville that is leaking water - it has a sunroof and Ive finally found the source (I think).

Basically after a rain storm (not a car wash) a puddle of water collects in the rear driver side passenger footwell area.

I can see a line of water today coming from the 'B' pillar (the drivers seat is bolted to the floor right there and the carpet underneath it is wet).

Looking at the door seals they are pretty dry so I dont think it is coming from there.

there are 2 suspects:

1. the is a line of trim that runs across the roof
2. the sunroof drain plugs

Can someone verify if the sun roof drain plugs run down the B pillar to the ground - or maybe has some other way that water could drain out of the B pillar under the carpet into the rear footwell?

The head liner is dry

The plastic covering the B pillar appears dry(no squishy sound if you press on it).

One last bounce to see if someone missed this that might know where the drain plugs go for the Bonneville sunroof?

my friends Bonneville did the same thing but in the back foot area. she also has a sunroof. the drains are being the front tires look under the car infront of the door but behind the tire like right in the middle there right there. also open the sunroof look to the front corner you will see a little whole poor water in there and see where it does thats the drain. theres 1 on ever corner. for her car it was the door seals that where bad. went to the junkyard got 2 seals for both back doors never saw water again.

Thanks - the door seals look good, though for some reason there is a strip across the roofline like the whole door assembly was connected to the frame - that could be a possibility.

Ill drop under the car this weekend to see if the drain plugs have any obvious blockage. Any kind of tool I could use to push up the drain holes to move a blockage?

The doors have a plastic liner that's held to the metal with a butyl type caulk. This can harden and age. Then the water that the plastic sheet directs into the middle of the door to drip out the drain holes at the bottom outside the rubber seals ends up coming inside behind the door panel and down the narrow metal part of the door and onto the floor of the car.

Try using a hose over the door windows for a while to let water go inside the door and see if you can find a wet track on the metal behind the door panel.

That sounds about right - It appears my fuel pump went :( - so Ive asked the dealer to look at the door liner and should have something tomorrow.

it is leaking right in the middle of the 'B' pillar down to the floor - I could see a trail of water.

So I got the Bonneville back yesterday - had a new fuel pump put in (why these are located in the gas tank is beyond me........)

Anyhow - the leak turned out to be an issue with the drain plugs being clogged and such. Something else that was weird was the sunroof didnt close flush with the roof - for some odd reason it looked like a design decision vs a problem before I took it in, but they adjusted the close to be flush with the roof along with replacing the drain tubes and such - now to wait for the rain.

Thx for everyones input - if it doesnt stay dry Ill update with any new 'fixes'...

My 04 had the same issue. I went to the dealer to purchase new seals. The parts man talked me out of, good thing too. So I made an appointment with their body shop and just as stated above, the caulk on the plastic sheet had come loose and I had huge puddles on the right rear floorboard. So they recaulked, charged me $99, forgot to vacuum the water from their leak test and I am happy now. Been raining here 2 days now, no water leak. I still have to vacuum the dampness they left though!!:bounce:

Turns out I had the plastic liner issue on all 4 doors - they were fixed but the leak has returned on 1 side.........the smell of 'rust' is driving me nuts after every rain - Im tempted to pop the door liner off myself and re caulk the door.

Anyone have the on-star antenna leak into the dome light?
Many years ago, my son's 2004 Grand Prix GT2 had this problem. The OnStar antennae was mounted on the front of the roof, above the interior, ceiling mounted light. Water would leak into the interior light fixture, then dribble onto the floor console. There was a TSB for this problem but I don't have a copy.

I removed the interior light fixture (the car had a factory sunroof). The nuts holding the antennae were loose from the factory. I removed the nuts, added clear silicone and snuggly reinstalled the nuts. The leak was eliminated.

This was a classic example of poor quality factory assembly. Good luck.
