If the Bronco was a bigger 2 door SUV like the old 2 door Tahoe's, I'd be interested, if you could get it with the 5.0 v8. Not interested if it's Wrangler size.

Perhaps by then they will figure out how to make body panels out of aluminum that are not wavy and reminiscent of the 60's. I cringe at every clean 2015 F150 I see on the road.

Exactly. The Colorado/Canyon twins have Ford scrambling to catch up again. GM's truck dominance has pushed Ford into scramble mode. They just need to remove their foot from their mouth first.

Now we get to hear Ford fans for the next 3 years say "Just wait until the Ranger comes out!"
Will the Bronco put GM into scramble mode for a comparable GMC vehicle?

I suspect the Bronco will be comparable to the Tahoe/Yukon. I wonder if there will be a Lincoln version.
Ford already has those, but they're called the Expedition and Navigator. I can't imagine them fundamentally changing the characteristics of the vehicle, and then renaming it "Bronco". The Bronco will be something completely different, whether it be a renamed Everest, or a more dedicated Wrangler fighter.

Brilliant strategy , the Bronco is a smallish capable SUV(body on frame ??) in a hot marketplace segment and I am forecasting , (with my Ouiji Board of course) that the Ranger will be lighter with aluminum body and the engines will rock Canyon's boat big time , also Ford will surely produce a hot Sports Model . The Focus competes in a very price competitive marketplace segment , so building these in Mexico is very smart indeed . It is great that we have North American manufacturers meeting the Asian lower priced products head-on in the hot market segments . Congratulations FORD !

You mean the Ford Ranger F-100? ;)

How is it "too late"? The Colorado came out just over a year ago. They just added a Trail Boss package for '16. The Frontier is still ancient, the Tacoma got a refresh that isn't fooling anyone, and we're discussing a Ranger that probably won't hit the roads until the '19 model year. How would a ZR2 that is still to come be too late?

Agree GM beat Ford to the punch by nearly 5 years, the diesel rolls out soon there are off road upgrades and plenty of time to access if the ZR2 needs to come along. At the moment GM is having trouble meeting demand much less building inventory for the every day truck and the Z71 in addition to getting the 2.8 diesel out it makes no sense to panic over possible specialty editions.

As for the Bronco good move by Ford if they make a more fuel efficient Humvee type vehicle but it will still be a niche product.

Because once the Ranger hits (its already been caught testing) anything Colorado will be old news. Multiply that by Bronco. So unless the ZR2 comes out right around the same time the Ranger debuts there will be nothing to soften the blow and it'll be too late. There has been no spy/testing activity to suggest the ZR2 is real.

Its a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately segment. Ford doesn't need any help but GM seems to be going out of their way to do nothing. So if there's nothing in the pipeline of real substance then its too late.

Kind of like how the Mustang shot its wad early and has nothing to bounce back with against the stellar SS Camaro. Now it'll be uphill for Mustang for the rest of this generation.

Better count that with the f150 and super duty. They're all F series after all. Best selling 'series' forever. ;-)
Can't argue that the Ranger is cannibalizing sales, if they're adding them together, right?

Hindsight is (almost) always 20/20, but looking at where we (i.e. GM) are now, the Colorado/Canyon was GM jumping into the pool, but on the shallow end, so no risk.

GM's problem now isn't that the C/C aren't accepted into the market, it is that they can't make nearly enough and are actually sacrificing a lot of full-size van sales for many of what they are building.

I was kinda hoping Janesville was going to re-open and be a Van (both full-size & mid-size) facility with K2XX overflow capability.

Ford is taking a bigger risk, opening up a plant dedicated to just the Ranger and Bronco, but it has a bigger reward too.

(if you think about it, the exact opposite position for the way Lincoln & Cadillac are attacking the market)

F150 outsells Silverado 1500, F250 outsells Silverado 2500, F350 outsells Silverado 3500 - Let me know when you figure out which way we should count them.............

FWIW; The Impala "Series" does out sell the Taurus..........

;)

I will be the first to agree with you that a ZR2 is needed (especially when the Ranger drops) but to say that GM "has gone out of their way to do nothing" for the Colorado/Canyon is a false statement to me.

They have added a diesel model and the trail boss package within a year of the vehicles debut. (yes I understand the trail boss package isn't what the enthusiasts want, but that doesn't mean "GM has gone out of their way to do nothing" Doing nothing would be exactly that...Doing nothing, which GM hasn't done.

Probably not, GM likes ignoring GMC for some reason.

It may give GM second thoughts about bringing the Trail Blazer back though...Which would be welcome.

Yes, F-100 Ranger should be the nameplate. From a marketing standpoint it only makes sense.

As far as Bronco is concerned I have no desire to see it return as anything but a reimagining of the 1st gen '66-'77 Bronco.
It will just be Ranger. They won't change it at all from what the global name is.

Yes "nothing" maybe an over statement. But we've seen GM again and again let their products wither on the vine. I think the ZR2 would have served better as an option right out of the gate than as an answer to anything Ford might do. Especially since the Raptor has been around forever now and the TuRd Pros are out there as well.

In truck segments you run a very big risk of getting stale very quickly. Silverado was stale before it went on sale. Ranger and Bronco will be the next shiny new thing to dangle. GM will need an answer but is there evidence of anything in the pipeline other than half-measures? No.
