I'm surprised at how surprised so many seem with regard to how good this car is. Fiat has long had some serious chops in the C, B, and A segments so I fully expected a great car to emerge. I can't qait to see what they do with the SRT4.

I wish the Cruze had an available 160 and 184 Hp engine. A 1.6 T would be a nice upgrade for Cruze 2LT and LTZ owners and maybe std with the RS package.
Well, the Cruze isn't but the Buick Verano is available with a ~180 hp 2.4 with an optional 2.0T with 250 hp. So, GM does have the market covered, though they do it with two cars.

When you from nuttin to this that is a lot of sales potential. They did a nice job, but the weight is about the same as the next Fusion which is a tad chubby.

As nice as it is, hands down I would pick the Focus or Cruze over the Dart unless the Dart had AT LEAST a $2,000 average selling price advantage.

But I'm a little biased to begin with as a Ford/GM guy.

Something other than a sedan would be nice.

I'd like to see a 2dr(3dr hatchback?) SRT-4 w/300HP w/AWD!! :D

:drive:

...anybody notice a trend in the "new" Chrysler-Fiat (nee' MoPar) line-up:

Charger 4-door...instead of original 2-door
Dart 4-door...instead of orginal 2-door availability (there were 4- & 2-door models)

...makes you wonder how the 2-door Challenger got out the door.

They should have called the 4 door Charger: Polara, or Coronet.

Charger and challenger predate fiat involvement by years. Are we reliving 2005?

...ah, true, but the "new" Chrysler-Fiat amalgamation has kept the Charger as a four-door and now given us a four-door Dart.

They should have called the 4 door Charger: Polara, or Coronet.
...the iconic 1968 Charger body was originally intended for the smaller E-body chassis, but was pushed upward and onto the B-body as replacement for the 1967 Charger design which was (like the Barracuda/Valiant) simply a "grafted" fastback roofline onto an existing lower chassis.

Even though I love my silver Cruze LS I should've gotten the LT1 with the 1.4 liter Turbo. I'm still amazed that the 2013 model wont get more power like a DI 1.8 and 1.4T and the VeranoTurbo of 250 hp in a RS or SS version

Why would they change the name of the charger?

Why can't the dart be a 4 door? It was always available as a 4 door.

This conversation is pointless.

...uh, which, pointless (to you) or pointed (to others)?

...FWIW, the high-performance A-body Darts (such as the '66 273cid/27hp D-Dart) and Valiants came in TWO door, as well as four-door, models. The "new" Chrysler-Fiat Dart is only 4-door, like the Charger.

Who is to say that the new dart won't see more variants? current rumors are of a coupe 300.

50 years ago, just about every nameplate came in sedan, pillar less sedan, coupe, wagon, convertible versions. Now almost no car does this. I guess the new impala and Malibu need name changes? The regal? Hey the mustang isn't a fastback anymore! The town and country is no longer a woodie sedan with an I-8! The corvette should move exclusively to an I-6 while we are at it.

Here is a quick peek at the DDCT -

-

Smoothness is the focus

To Roy Nassar, chief engineer for DDCT, that’s mission accomplished, as most American shoppers will want the unit to behave just like the automatics they’re used to, not the more attuned, enthusiast-honed device that dual-clutch gearboxes have the potential to be.

And really it’s no surprise that with the backlash that Ford experienced a year or two after introducing its Powershift dual-clutch transmission in the Fiesta and then the Focus (and with other small-car automakers, like Mazda, openly shunning dual-clutch setups), Chrysler engineers were wary, and wanted to get it right—with a more conservative tack on their unit.

Complaints regarding the Fiesta’s DCT in particular revolved around jerky, overly throttle-sensitive behavior at low speeds, although Ford seems to have fixed those issues through revised calibration. Early reviews also expressed frustration over how Ford didn’t allow full manual control over shifts when wanted by the driver. -
