I like most aspects of this car but the front end doesn't look quite right with that center section that hangs down in an odd way. This could be the only car that might actually look better with a front license plate.

My favorite part is the asymmetrical doors because it gives the driver all the benefits of a coupe and gives the passengers all the benefits of a sedan.

Hyundai is really doing a good job of getting the weight out of all their new cars. This is a small car but I can't think of any lighter cars at 2584lbs. even though it has the class leading interior volume. The light weight might actually make the low power perfectly acceptable with the DCT.

Now that my office has moved to the city and the garage parking is super tight this is an interesting car since it's hatchback profile gives it a very small overall length and it's turning radius is unmatched even by the Scion, Golf, or Mini.

The part I either don't get is that the Veloster and the Curve both get the 1.6 Gamma but with very different power.

Veloster: 138 horsepower, 123 lb.-ft.
Curb: 175 horsepower, 169 lb.-ft.

I wonder if the Curb actually gets a bigger 1.8 to get the extra power?

This is the answer to a question noone asked.

I will say though that it is astonishing how Hyundai can make the mundane seem like a technological marvel. Look how long that press release is and how much info is crammed in to make it seem better than it is.

What's the deal with all the motorcycle references? First Sonic, now this.
Yeah because I'm sure the base model Sonic will have a 7" Touchsreen standard... oh and Direct Injection.. and a dual clutch auto.

What about Bluetooth and USB? Oh.. you'll have to spend $500 on a special connectivity package.. thanks GM!

Hyundai needs to make a Veloster turbo in the worst way.

Make a turbo Veloster? NOW we're talking.

Not this wussy 138 horsepower crap.

At least Hyundai has some balls to put color palette that won't make you feel like a mushroom or another lost car owner in the shopping mall parking lot. :D

Better than Honda, so why the hate? Is Hyundai a new Toyota at GMI for spitting and trashing?

6-speed dual cluth transmission? Impressive for a low-budget compact car. GM have a dual clutch in anything yet?

This thing has more interior room and yet weighs 400 lbs less than the Scion tC. That's no small feat, very impressive. I don't see why anyone considering a CRZ wouldn't get this instead... though I fully understand why many people won't like the look of the Veloster.

I personally really like it, I like oddball, and this is one weird car! Right size, right economy, right power... if the price is reasonable this is totally the car for me! Haven't read all the way through the information... any chance this will come to Europe... and if so, if they'll stick a diesel engine in it??!

No, and they probably won't anytime soon. However, that also doesn't mean this car is automatically good. Hyundai seems to me like they're swinging wildly at everything that moves, hoping that they hit something. I'm not saying what they're doing is bad, it isn't.... but they come across as trying to be everything to everyone.

It's been said that, he who builds to every man's advice will have a crooked house.... just sayin.

I don't know which is more mind-boggling:

the Veloster's odd proportions and detailing...

or owners of Monte Carlos and GMT900 trucks calling anything else ugly.

Many of you are panning this car, but I actually like it and think it will sell. GM needs something different like this. Like it or not, Hyundai is on a roll!
I agree, it certainly stands out and will appeal to plenty of people.

I really don't get the 3rd door however. If I were buying a car and wanted a coupe and found a hiddend rear door on the passenger side acceptable and handy, why would I care if there was one on the drivers side as well? Do I want one side of the car to look different than the other? Do I want the drivers side to look like a 2-door and not the passenger side? I don't get it. Either make it a 2-door or make it a 4-door with hidden rear doors. The only reason for this is cost savings (and weight savings as well?).

If you are tall it's a major difference. If you slide the seat all the way back in a small car to make room for your legs your vision is blocked by the B-pillar. It also makes for a larger opening when getting in or out.

With this car the driver has the advantages of the coupe yet the passengers have the accessibility of a sedan, perfect.

The technology built into this car is simply amazing.

There are things that this Hyundai can do standard that many luxury cars are incapable of doing. I don't know of another car that can play MPEG or AVI movies through the USB port or a car with Standard Video Game Console connectivity (with Video inputs / electrical outlet).

The styling might be quirky -- but the vehicle breaks new ground from a standard features perspective. If the car is as fun to drive as they are claiming: it will kill the Scion Tc and Honda CR-Z (which is its intended mission). GM builds NOTHING in this segment. There is no competitive product.

Wow, Mr. Thinks he is Better than Everybody Else, strikes again!

When I saw this car on here I thought it was ugly, very ugly. But at NAIAS, when I saw it in person, I thought it was an awesome little car. I fell in love with it, and believe it or not, would actually consider buying one. I just wish it had a more powerful engine, 138hp is pretty weak.

The Fiat 500 is another "would buy" car.

^ Not surprising since Hyundai's design language tends to look better in person than in photos, but still, I wish Hyundai had stuck more to the look (esp. the front fascia) of the concept (the front of the production vehicle is just a bit too garish).

A Veloster w/ a turbo powerplant is slated to hit the European market later this year, no word as to yet as to whether the NA Veloster will get the turbo option as well.

Just because you CAN do something with tech these days doesn't mean that you should, or that you need to. Video game controls? Gimme a break. This is a friggin' car. You shouldn't be playing video games while you're driving. Same with all this other crap. Maybe of people spent more time concentrating on their driving instead of being distracted trying to achieve perpetually connectivity and video entertainment, we might have safer roads.

Exactly, thanks. Nice to be reminded how the Ignore function, used sparingly, can make GMI a better place to hang. At least we longer hear about "Chad" from him.

Funny how nowdays many cars look so much better in real life than in images. I did not like the new SRX until I saw them on the road. To me, Hyundai is on a styling roll, with the Sonata the most beautiful sedan on American roads.....and they seem to be selling VERY well here in Tampa. So I am curious how I will react to the Veloster in real life, especially that front end I have misgivings about.
