It would be more interesting if it didn't defy the laws of physics. W=I*E. It's going to take a hell of a lot of I or a hell of a lot of E to transfer enough W to run a car 500 miles. Let me know when they test this thing so I can be somewhere else.

This could be the start of something revolutionary. Its ok to be skepticle, but sometimes when new directions are taken, things we didn't think possible become possible. I hope they can pull it off.

Very interesting read. Something else to keep a look out on the horizon for in the future. Alternative propulsion is exploding with ideas..maybe that wasn't the best choice of words though

Sounds like it for smaller scaled vehicles right now. I hope the technology is shared among the car copmpanies, as opposed to a bidding war. Although if it comes to that, the Big 3 should pool their money. Maybe Uncle Sam should step in and buy the rights, and share it license it on the cheap to US companies.

Energy density is the weakness of most ultracapacitor technologies (when compared to batteries). Even the so called 'hybrid' ultracaps (the combo of a standard symmetric ultracap and a battery) typically have reduced power capability at the expense of the increased energy. A number of foreign and domestic companies have been improving (slowly but steadily) ultracaps for decades now, so overall, I am highly skeptical of these claims. Show me the real data!

Not to mention the heat dissipated. How would this be safe?

Notice the article never mentioned how fast the car would go or even if it could keep up with current speed limits on two lane state roads...

In a PR planted news story such as this they would be touting all its capabilities - when something as basic as speed is left out it makes you wonder.
