When Saturn gets the axe later this year, GM will face another conundrum added to its long list: A possible 25% reduction in hybrid vehicle sales.
The automaker's youngest division was only surpassed by Chevrolet last year in hybrid vehicle sales, moving 5,838 hybrids from its dealer lots. Saturn currently offers the Vue Hybrid as well as the Aura Hybrid sedan.
A Two Mode Vue was due out this summer, but has inevitably been cancelled. The same can be said of the crossover's plug-in hybrid derivative.
GM North American sales chief Mark LaNeve mentioned to Automotive News that Saturn's hybrid technology could be implemented throughout the future GM family.
"Any of the four core brands could get our technology," LaNeve said. "There's not a hybrid in Saturn that is exclusive to Saturn. Nothing changes there, unless someone who buys Saturn says they want us to continue building hybrids for this brand and we agree to do it."
