    Hummer: 600hp and 60mpg?

Read the following article from FastCompany Mag. The magazine article with pictures is even better. This guy also talks about the hummer getting 60mpg and 0-60 in 5 seconds.

    http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/...d-messiah.html

This is more than a mere American Chopper--style makeover. Goodwin's experiments point to a radically cleaner and cheaper future for the American car. The numbers are simple: With a $5,000 bolt-on kit he co-engineered--the poor man's version of a Goodwin conversion--he can immediately transform any diesel vehicle to burn 50% less fuel and produce 80% fewer emissions. On a full-size gas-guzzler, he figures the kit earns its money back in about a year--or, on a regular car, two--while hitting an emissions target from the outset that's more stringent than any regulation we're likely to see in our lifetime. "Johnathan's in a league of his own," says Martin Tobias, CEO of Imperium Renewables, the nation's largest producer of biodiesel. "Nobody out there is doing experiments like he is."

    Re: Hummer: 600hp and 60mpg?

Amazing news. If anyone saw it, the Diesel 65 Impala was amazing! 800hp and 1300ftlbs with the 6spd Allision parked behind it did a NASTY burn out!
While what this guy can do compared to what GM can do are very different. While yes, its very simple to make something in your garage, its harder to engineer it for mass production, build it for durability and all weather, warranty it and sell it at an affordable level. Like stated in the article, people pay 28k for the conversion of a Dmax into thier trucks, but for GM to do this, NO ONE will spend 80k on a Suburban on a daily basis, not enough to create a production line.
This article is good to show that one man can do great things, and gives ideas to engineers on how to help cut emissions and boost fuel economy. Will GM put a carbon fiber tanke of hyrdogen in a diesel Malibu? No, thats too expensive, takes up too much room, not to mention where are you gunna get hyrdogen to fuel it up, but its an idea for future cars.
With this guys ideas, just his works can be looked at and help improve future vehicles.

    Yup.

I'd love to see this in production. But until it's in production and independently verified by reputable sources, I'd say it's no different from "100 mpg carburetors" and other foolishly optimistic inventors or con artists of the past.

I checked the parts about the turbine engine, remember Jay Leno's turbine car he showed at SEMA last year? Or even much more back in time, the Chrysler Turbine car. Maybe the turbine engine didn't said its last word yet.

    Re: Hummer: 600hp and 60mpg?

All of these car companies can make vehicles that get 100mpg. They just do not want to. Who would buy oil? If silverado can get 100mpg how often would you fill it. and if there is no big demand for oil there would be no wars? Just look at tesla if he can produce electric car, but gm and toyota are telling us that it is very difficult to make plug in hybrid. Come on. It is a story for little kids. Even china is making electric cars but, toyota and gm can not.

Thats amazing, as long as you don't have to pay an extra $28k for it. I hope we see this in a production car in our lifetime and it doesn't cost this much.

It's not that far off. The Abrams tank is currently powered by a jet turbine so its not that far off. But on how well it will perform, it's still up in the air.

The Abrams tank also is criticized for being a gas guzzler. Also its a military vehicle they can afford it. In time I hope its feasible.

GM should get this guy on their team and produce hummers and other v8 cars with those kind of figures
